MAGA & conspiracy crap. The monster is a reflection of its creator, or, in this case, its buyer and owner. I hope no one was so foolish as to think Musk bought Twitter for any reason other than to make it over in his image and pursue his political and commercial goals.

These are the Twitter/X accounts with the most engagement so far in 2026. I suppose I had some intuition for how bad it was, but jeez, this is what you get when the ecosystem is broken.

These would be great points if any of them were true, but they're not and that's a problem for your claim. Show me the quote where Trump expressly threatened Denmark with war over Greenland? I'd wait, but that would require waiting forever because Trump never made any such express threats. Instead, like a good businessman, he simply stated that all options are on the table while attempting to negotiate a price to purchase Greenland. But, if you want express threats, look to Europe. For example, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen of Denmark publicly confirmed that Danish troops in Greenland have standing orders to "shoot (Americans) first and ask questions later" and Tillie Martinussen, a politician from Greenland, used the metaphor of a dog that needs to be put down when referring to the US. Those statements, for example, are far far more threatening than anything Trump has ever stated. So the only ones who have encouraged Putin and Xi, with regards to Taiwan, is Europe. Imagine being Putin or Xi watching Europe not only waffle, but actively work against the US by denying bases and airspace regarding US operations against the brutal Islamic Republic's regime in Iran.

Trump has insulted and tariffed his European allies, persuaded Denmark to prepare for a US invasion and, by pressuring Ukraine and not Russia, encouraged Putin to keep fighting. All of which he has forgotten. theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/03/…

Applebaum's piece is worth reading slowly because the specific details are doing work that the summary can't. Danish military commanders - inside a NATO alliance the United States founded - had to sit in a room and war-game whether their forces would shoot down American planes and kill American soldiers. Some of them still haven't fully recovered from running that exercise. The most popular app in Denmark during Applebaum's visit was one that identifies American products so users know not to buy them. NATO has invoked Article 5 exactly once in its history. On behalf of the United States. After September 11th. Allied troops went to Afghanistan and some of them died there. Trump told reporters those allies "stayed a little back, a little off the front lines." The families of soldiers who didn't come back heard that. Now Trump is in the middle of a war in the Persian Gulf with the Strait of Hormuz locked, oil prices spiking, and he's telling NATO allies - the same ones he insulted and tariffed and threatened - that he's "demanding" they come help solve a problem his own decisions helped create. Applebaum's conclusion is precise: he doesn't connect what he does on one day to what happens weeks later. Allied leaders have drawn their conclusions. The rupture, as Mark Carney called it, isn't coming. It already happened.

When this is over, the western part of NATO will never be the same. Spain, England, France and Italy have sold us out, as they too often have a history of doing. Eastern European nations are the heart of NATO. They spend money on defense, know how to fight and love the US. France particularly deserves fault and blame. From supporting China and Russia at the UN to denying Americans overflight rights, they’re doing what they’ve always done - showing weakness, while cutting deals with terrorists. (The reason the US has a Marine Corps and Navy is unlike France, we refused to pay a ransom to the Barbary Pirates. France is always happy to cut a deal.) Wars have unintended consequences as nations show their true colors. NATO will never be the same, and Western European weakness and acquiescence is the cause.
