Today, I chaired the final Cabinet meeting of the outgoing government and later hosted members to a luncheon in appreciation of their dedicated service to our country. This is the Cabinet that ushered Uganda into middle-income status, and I thank everyone who contributed to this achievement, including the Cabinet Secretariat for effectively managing the business of cabinet. I thank them all and wish them good luck.

🚨 Commissioner General Dr. Johnson Byabashaija said that if President Museveni signs the death warrant, Christopher Okello Onyum will be hanged within 72 hours. Onyum was sentenced to death for stabbing four toddlers at a daycare in Ggaba, Kampala. This would be the first civilian execution in Uganda since 1999, if it happens.

The Supreme Court is the one that confirms the death sentence in Uganda. The High Court gives the initial sentence, then it goes to the Court of Appeal, and finally the Supreme Court has the final say before any execution can happen. So both are involved, but the Supreme Court has the last word on whether the death penalty stands.
