Yesterday, ERCOT experienced a historic day with system load reaching an all-time peak, surpassing the previous record set on August 10, 2023. Contrary to expectations, prices remained under $100/MWh at peak, compared to the near-cap prices of $5000/MWh (a $4,900 difference!) observed last August. This showcases the positive impact of bitcoin miners demand response capabilities - shedding load (aka curtailing) during peak demand hours - and the resulting impact on consumer energy pricing during peak demand hours in Texas.
