As a sociology graduate from over 20 years ago, I can tell you: back then most of what they taught was straight Marxism. I was always conservative at heart, but as a student I leaned more socialist. People change 🙏🏼 especially once you have children and see the real world.👌🏼 I don’t know Florida’s exact curriculum, but knowing those Marxist ideologies from core classes like Sociological Theory (heavy on Marx & Engels), Conflict Theory, and Social Stratification, plus topics like race, class, gender, and power structures, equips you to actually identify what’s happening in our world today… and maybe even help fix it. Spot on decision! 🇺🇸

For years, Sociology has drifted from objective instruction toward divisive, ideological promotion, undermining critical thinking. Despite repeated efforts to correct course, it remains a sinking ship. Today, the Florida State Board of Education took action to remove Sociology from general education course lists across the Florida College System, aligning with recent decisions by the Board of Governors for the State University System.

Instead you walk straight into a full prairie-family reunion where every aunt, uncle, and cousin is side-eyeing Netflix like it’s Mr. Oleson trying to repossess the farm. The first wave hits you like a locust swarm: “99.9% sure they’ll make someone nonbinary.” “Gay Indians by episode 3.” “White guilt on the prairie speedrun.” “Pa’s gonna be a bumbling colonizer who needs the strong independent Mary-Sue daughter to fix his racism.” “Caroline’s gonna found a mail-order feminist collective while plowing the back forty.” Every single one of them is quoting the books like it’s scripture. They’re correcting the trailer on character ages, hair color, the exact timeline between Plum Creek and Silver Lake, and whether that cabin was even in Indian Territory. One guy drops the full bibliography: “Farmer Boy is peak, The Long Winter still hits different, don’t @ me.” Half the comments are mourning the old Michael Landon show (“it was goofy but at least it didn’t lecture us”), and the other half are like, “The TV show was already fanfic, @netflix is about to turn it into required DEI homework.” You keep scrolling and the predictions get more unhinged (in the most accurate way): - Trans Indian in the barn. - MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+ subplot in episode 4. - Pa abandons the family for Mr. Edwards and Ma becomes a prairie divorce attorney. - Someone literally posts the names of the executive producers and their activist bios like it’s a wanted poster. A few brave souls type “the trailer actually looks promising…” and the replies dogpile them so fast you can hear the wagon wheels creaking. One comment just says “Ma……” with a picture of the actress and the entire thread loses it. By comment 300 you realize the overwhelming consensus is: We all grew up on these books. They shaped us. We want one thing—faithfulness. And Netflix has never met a classic it didn’t want to “fix” with 2026 politics. You close the app, stare at your bookshelf, and whisper the same thing the original poster did: “I’m trying not to get too excited…” Because deep down every single commenter already knows the ending. They’re gonna ruin it. And we’re all gonna reread the yellow paperbacks anyway.

This article is exactly why young people are scared to have kids, it will scare the hell out of them already terrified they can’t afford to raise children. Headlines screaming ‘$300K+ just to raise one child’ make them think ‘how am I ever supposed to afford this?’ No wonder birth rates keep dropping and collapsing. We need to make family-building affordable again, not terrifying.
