Are you a new (or aspiring) private fund manager with legal questions that keep you up at night? Are you looking for answers from people who don’t have the exact expertise required to truly answer those questions? You’re not alone! So I recently interviewed rockstar 🎸securities attorney Ron Geffner, Founding Partner of Sadis & Goldberg. Ron and his team have launched more than 1000 private funds and they've handled every situation under the sun. 👉 Check out the 1-minute clip of my interview with Ron where he talks about the importance of maintaining strong relationships with your service providers. 📣 This is a much-watch episode packed with great information (and ‘what-not-to-do’ 👀 stories) for new managers or aspiring new managers.

Here's a ‘map’ of the typical 'Private Fund Investor Journey.' Why is this important? If you’re launching a fund (or thinking about it), you know you’ll need to attract investors and allocations. Aligning your marketing and communication efforts as much as possible with an investor's pathway to making an allocation is crucial for building investor relationships. Design your marketing efforts to engage investors during the phases and touchpoints of their journey, from initial awareness to allocation and beyond.

Do you believe in time travel? I'm not sure about the future, but I can revisit the past with music. An old favorite song instantly transports me back in time. Yesterday, while shuffling songs on my music app, there it was. The intro I've heard countless times. "Diamonds and Pearls" by Prince, my favorite artist, began to play. I was in college when this song was released, marking a memorable era. Before the internet, smartphones, and Spotify, discovering new music meant tuning into the radio. This concept might be foreign to younger folks, but the radio once was our gateway to the latest hits. Music plays a significant role in our lives. I hope you find joy in music and, as you age, realize its power to evoke memories. Cherish your favorite songs; they'll mean even more as time goes on.

Every f*cker on X sounds the same- is all I keep hearing. And it's a total lie. Finding your voice takes time. Unless you know how to write like you speak. And thankfully, I know the secret to that. ━━━━━━⁌•⁍━━━━━━ 0) Finding your voice ━━━━━━⁌•⁍━━━━━━ Before I give you the golden nuggets to my writing. I need to share some truths my dad taught me. I’m about to tell you this, because- Loving yourself...is step 1 to writing with excitement. Growing up, he & I had a very strained relationship. → I always felt like the odd one out in my family → Always lost in my imagination & my stories → Thought I'd never be successful like him 'I can never live up to your expectations, Dad', I told myself. Then, one day, with tears in my eyes, he told me something: "My boy…I’m Okay, You’re Okay" "W-w-what, does that mean?", I sobbed. He took my hands in his & explained: Every human being, without exception, is valuable, important, and to be taken fully into account. So before I teach you anything today, know this: • You are valuable. • You are important. • You are one-of-a-kind. So stop worrying if you’re unique enough…YOU ARE! Okay, enough crying, Wren. The reason I told you this story, is because- ━━━━━━⁌•⁍━━━━━━ 1) I love everyone ━━━━━━⁌•⁍━━━━━━ I keep hearing the same thing from people • Man, your energy is unmatched! • I just love your high energy! • Please adopt me! (Just so you know, @viggofredrikson, I signed the papers. Welcome to the family, kiddo!) But it all comes from the fact that I honestly- love everyone I follow. The best way to do this, is- → go Marie Kondo your following Look at every profile, and unless it sparks joy- Unfollow them. Harsh, I know. But once you know you vibe with everyone you follow- You’ll write with love. Because everyone…is your buddy. Then to make it hella personal- → Write as if you’re speaking to that buddy "Yo Marc, you don’t know how to hook up your TV? How the hell do you watch Netflix? WHAT? On your phone? No dude, that shit needs to stop. Here, go grab me an HDMI cable and let’s sort this fcker out real quick." Bet you read that entire story, right? Next up- ━━━━━━⁌•⁍━━━━━━ 2) I push it to 11 ━━━━━━⁌•⁍━━━━━━ I literally twist the knife on- EVERYTHING I write. That’s why my long forms are soooo long. But here’s the crazy thing about that. NOBODY will complain about- TOO MUCH value! I wrote a comment to @PeteBadh this morning, and instead of saying- → I am really thankful you’re my friend. I said: → You are the rocky road pistachio choc chip peanut butter cup ice cream of my heart. Super extra, I know. But it’s unique and it shows- just how much I actually care. So whenever I write something, I do this: • How can I say this more uniquely (funnier/louder) • How can I infuse my personality (kindness/joy) • How can I make it relatable (personal) That’s why nobody can write like me, because- Nobody can be ME. If that doesn’t make sense, do this: • How do you speak • What's your personality like • How can you add MORE of that Vibe is the most important part of your writing. And lastly- ━━━━━━⁌•⁍━━━━━━ 3) I get super personal ━━━━━━⁌•⁍━━━━━━ I could have written this entire thing like: The first thing you need to do is… But it’s more powerful to say: The first thing I do is… (see the difference?) When you put yourself in the story, it instantly becomes relatable. Then I just sprinkle in fun everywhere. And the best way to do that is to add- • humor • anecdotes • personal insights You can summarise all of those into 'tell fun stories'. This is social media, not a business seminar, bro. Here’s a final golden tip for you: → Use Contractions You’re probably thinking- "Yo bruv, what did you just call me" It just means, use shorter words. Do not → Don’t Cannot → Can’t Will not → Won’t When you use these, your writing will flow smoothly Plus, it will sound more like an actual conversation. Unless you're the King of England- Nobody cares about your perfect pronunciation. ━━━━━━🏆━━━━━━ You read all the way to the end? YOU LEGEND! We are officially friends now. (I'm busy ordering the BFF necklaces as you read this) If this post helped you, consider: 1.) Liking 2.) Retweeting 3.) Following me 📷 And DM me, if none of this made sense- I'll make us a nice picnic, and we'll figure it out together!

Check out the 1-minute clip of my interview with David Gerber, Founder and CEO of Wolfgang Capital, providing CFO, consulting, and advisory services for investment managers. 🎯 This episode covers the COSTS and financial/operational aspects of launching and running a successful fund management business. 👉 Having working capital is the lifeblood of your operation. 👉 Investors can love your strategy, but they need to know you have a viable operation that you are also invested in. 👉 I get a TON of questions on this, and there’s not enough information out there to help investment managers understand how to effectively manage ‘the business’ side of your fund management business. 📣 This episode is packed with great information for new managers or aspiring new managers. In the full episode, David covers: 📌 Typical all-in fund management business costs — from launching to maintaining. 📌 Competitive fee structures in today’s market. 📌 Common misconceptions new managers typically have about running a fund. 📌 How firms can creatively raise ‘pre-AUM’ working capital. 📌 Pitfalls to avoid. 📌 The danger in thinking ‘I can do this all myself.’ 📌 Why taking a 2- to 3-year view of your business is critical. 📌 Important considerations for launching and running a fund. Link to the full interview in the comments. 📷

I attended a masterclass in online writing. But listening to @ShaanVP and @thesamparr (who built and sold +$10M newsletters businesses) showed me: Their success came from following a few simple rules. Here are my favorite 5: 1/ Begin with the end in mind People will only share your stuff if they FEEL something at the end. So before you start writing, pick 1 emotion: ▸ lol ▸ wtf ▸ aha ▸ omg ▸ woohoo Once you know how to end, start to write. 2/ Build a swipe file Whenever you read something you love, steal it. How? Create a document or Notion page where you can store awesome: headlines, phrases, email intros, landing page copy, CTAs, etc Pro tip: Create multiple swipe files for different things. Build your library of great writing. 3/ Write simple School teachers hate this: But online, you want to use simple language. A great "hack" is to run your text through the Hemingway App. Aim for a low readability grade (3-6). 4/ Great writing has rhythm Start with a short sentence. But avoid sounding like a robot. How? By varying the length of your sentences just like I do with this tip. That’ll add some rhythm. 5/ Tell stories A story is 2 things: Somebody wants something and there’s something in their way. They call this "intention" & "obstacle". Example? Lords of the Rings: Frodo’s intention? Getting the goddamn ring to Mordor. His obstacles? Well, how about Gollum, Sauron, and half of Middle Earth? You get the point. So here’s a simple exercise: Next time you watch a movie, stop at ANY point and ask yourself: What’s the main character’s intention? What obstacles are in their way? Every great story must answer these questions at any given time. And that’s it! ================= Hope that was helpful! And go check out the full masterclass on YouTube. ================= For more stuff about writing online, follow @DaveSchmiedecke
