@AuthorGFAllen That it requires silent time for the story to present itself. Just forcing yourself to write when you’re uninspired usually doesn’t work. We have very noisy lives…. If I’m stuck, I often wait a few days and inevitably a solution will appear

@AuthorGoodwin Trying to keep up with changing trends in the genre also not fun.

@BettyWoodsWrite @DNicholsAuthor Rarely. I usually don’t review if I can’t give it at least 4. But I HATED “A Little Life.” It won all these awards. But it is misery porn. Kept hoping it would end in some satisfying way. Nope. Misery for ever after. Wish I’d DNFd it.
English

@DNicholsAuthor No. If I can’t do 3 or more stars, I skip the review.

Hey, fellow writers, I'm feeling nosy...
Have you ever left a bad review for a book?

@ElChandler 3rd person, and with my latest book I’m getting flack for it from younger readers who think 1st person is the only way to go. I will read books in 1st person but IMO it’s much harder to do well.

@JasonWMizer If I like the cover, blurb, and a few reviews hit me just right, I’ll download the sample. If I want to keep reading, I buy it. The author’s voice is everything for me. I don’t know why more readers don’t just download a bunch of samples! They’re free!
English

@writingwithreed I do. But I generally write out loud. So I voice text a lot of my brainstorming and first drafts, then email them to myself to put in a document and work on.
English

@writingwithreed I sometimes dictate chapters into my notes section while I’m walking. They are very messy to edit, but it works!

@Robin76336467 @ick_real I think this is for a character in a book

@ick_real Alva, Mina, Ina, Blanche, Mathilda. All from my recent family tree

@SirArminius Yes! If readers start at the beginning, they get to revisit their favorite characters over time. My latest book—won’t come out till October—is set in 2023 and introduces the next generation.
English

@CatherineTread6 I like that. So you built your own kind of universe where they can crossover and so you need to keep consistent, even though each story is its own.

Authors - when you are writing a real-world based book, do you try to anchor the book around certain dates or do you go date agnostic?
Why?

@LauriesLitLines @amykdebellis It’s an Em-ily-dash….

@CelestialBlueRa @retrocvnty The books are so much fun… but very different. Like cozy spice.

Truth!!!! ESPECIALLY after season 4, where Eric Northman lost his memory and was a loving, kind and devoted lover who would literally kill for you. As opposed to Bill who tricked Sookie into drinking his blood and falling in love after the first few episodes of season one. I will admit that I was so freaking sad that Bill wasn’t the man Sookie thought he was. The fact that he was sent to Merlot’s to procure her…. How he allowed her to be almost killed in order to feed her his blood. Eric was also sneaky with his blood eventually but Bill really fucked up. I literally can’t watch True Blood past season 4 because it just goes WAY DOWNHILL and the characters that you thought you knew just completely change in every way, shape and form. I wish I knew what the writers were thinking. I haven’t read the books but I wonder how they are.
English

@ElChandler I finish a draft then let it simmer while I write another. Right now I have 2 finished, which I’ll tackle again in time. It takes a while for the issues to rise to the surface! Meanwhile I have other ideas working themselves out in my head.

Warning: The following post edges on political, a rarity for me.
Here it goes.
In the span of twenty-four hours, I've seen or heard the following two statements:
Conservatives can't write (explanation: "They dumb!").
"Wokies" can't write (explanation: "They dumb!").
My humble contribution to the debate:
Most people can't write.
And taste is subjective.
There are people of all stripes who can write well.
And plenty of all stripes who can't.
Write, read, and enjoy what you will accordingly.

@AuthorGoodwin I just finished writing my 7th book in the little universe I’ve created. When the public is ready, they will find a treasure trove… or at least that is my hope! 🤣 1-5 is a series. 6-8 spinoffs. My Aeon Timeline file is a monster
