My raw take on D2D’s new fees: They’re hitting small indie authors with a $12 annual “maintenance” fee if you earn under $100 wide, while the real AI slop scammers laugh it off. I just got started going wide… and I’m already cutting ties. It pisses me off, but I refuse to get pushed around. Full post here → jwmizerwrites.com/journal/d2d-fe… What are you doing about it? #D2DFees

If I had buckets of money, I would pay someone to market my books. This stuff is hard and I'd rather be writing. I can't be alone here, right?

Hi, I’m Dodge Sterling, space pirate, captain of the Naughty Neighbor, reluctant hero, and professional avoider of responsibility. My AI keeps breaking the fourth wall, my crew is one bad idea away from eminent demise, and apparently the entire galaxy runs on cheese. Send help. Or cheese. Preferably both. #IndiePit #AN #A #SF #CO

36 YEARS doing nothing but being a career politician!! Amazing he thinks this is a positive thing to brag about. Don't they get it? We're sick of the corrupt Democrat machine and its endless failures. California needs an OUTSIDER to shake up a system that is obviously broken...

Tired captain who just wants to retire ✓ Sassy AI that roasts everyone (including the reader) ✓ Last goat in space ✓ Space pirates, duct tape, and galaxy-saving cheese ✓ Welcome to the crew of the most ridiculous ship in the stars. Bad decisions at warp speed guaranteed. This is Space Cheese. #IndiePit #AN #A #SF #CO

When the fate of the galaxy rests on... cheese? Retired-wannabe Captain Dodge Sterling and his ragtag crew of misfits (plus one sassy fourth-wall-breaking AI) blast off on a cosmic misadventure packed with space pirates, bad decisions, and way too much dairy. Expect flushing toilets and bring wet wipes. Hitchhiker’s Guide x Spaceballs — but cheesier. #IndiePit #AN #A #SF #CO

We are being taxed way too much in America Streamer Asmongold (Zack Hoyt) says he owes $4 million dollars for the year in taxes He makes roughly: - YouTube, over $400,000 per month - In October he made about $165k from 30 streams on Kik - Twitch he makes about $30k per month from subs - Plus sponsorship deals and money from TikTok He say he makes about $8-10 million per year Now yes this is a lot. But in what world does this give the government a right to take half your money. Does the government provide $4 million dollars in services in one year for this person? No We need to abolish the income tax and go to a flat tax

Starting the month with a simple ask: If you’ve been meaning to check out my books, go for it. Every single reader matters more than you think. And if you’ve read one already, an honest review goes a long way.

You thought Space Cheese was ridiculous? Space Cheese 2 said, “Hold my cheese.” Giant robots. Space Thulus. Bad decisions at light speed. It’s bigger. It’s louder. It’s absolutely unhinged. Coming soon. 🧀🚀

Question. If a post says: “Looking for a good fantasy book. Please leave recommendations.” Is it okay for an indie author to leave their self recommendation assuming their book is fantasy?

@Hart_Horrors The problem with problems is that everyone has them and they all stink, but some people think they don't stink. Hint, you stink. Not you, but the you I'm referring to .

Seeing a lot of posts about problematic authors. Just to reassure my millions of friends and fans, I won’t be using the word problematic or the phrase problematic authors to garner attention. It’s below me. And it’s problematic. And unbecoming for any author, problematic or not…

@BHolshouserUS My wife has been my beta reader so far. Some of my work isn't up her alley, some is. I think I do want more beta readers.

Gotcha. I'm sure many had some forms of them. Don't know if it'll help but I use betas. Most are a group in my target demographic that I listen to the most. They all love my other books so if they say something's off I take a close look. I also use an author I have a few others I trust as well as my editors but they all serve as a form of dev/beta.

Did the great writers of old have beta readers? Or is this a new phenomenon?

Please indulge a newbie to #IndiePit. Do I have this right that I can post as often as once an hour but that I'm not supposed to like other authors, leaving that to agents and publishers to do the liking for us? And does each post need to be different? Or can it be the same one?

Dostoevsky, Shakespeare, Tolstoy, Kafka, Hemingway, Homer... just to name a few. There may have been someone very close to them that they trusted. I don't know, hence the question. Truth be told, I was also asking this because I'm wondering if I should attempt to get a beta reader for my upcoming Space Cheese II.

How old are we talking? Tolkien had proofreaders, and used informal beta readers. Essentially, they functioned as betas. It wasn't quite as easy to hand over a script for reading going back much further, but it also often took far longer to write, edit, and publish a full book. I'd still wager to guess that most authors let a few trusted sources read through the script before publishing.

@JayLongWrites @JRLarriba I've noticed it more with the last big purchase I made for sure. Just laying down with nothing to weigh the front cover down, it's splaying up.

Has anyone else noticed the quality of books from Amazon KDP not being what they used to be? Particularly, I'm seeing much more "curling" or lifting of the covers when they're flat on a surface.
