Students struggling in math class don’t need traditional remediation. They need rich mathematical experiences related to their lives in order to make sense of what they are learning. “More of the same but slower/simpler” merely keeps those students behind.

@scribeteach @kim_yoak Whenever one of my classmates talked about the “real world”, I had a great professor who always asked “Aren’t we already in the real world?”. In my whole schooling experience, it wasn’t until college that I had a teacher point that out!

Can teachers and coaches please stop telling their learners about what happens when they get to the "real world?" Think for a moment what message this sends to those kids. Think about how you are delegitimizing these kids.
