WARMTH OF COLLECTIVISM UPDATE: Mayor Zohran Mamdani declares a "budget crisis," asks for a bailout from the state government, and pushes back his deadline for completing the city budget at least 10 days: "We cannot close this deficit with savings alone. We need new revenue, and we need a structural reset in our relationship with the state. That is the only way to meet our legal obligation to pass a balanced budget."

@yandjoshi Two of the biggest characters in the movies, who shaped several significant outcomes, were very strong women. There was a scene in The Two Towers where Eowyn smoked a bunch of Uruk-hai in the caves at Helm's Deep, but it was cut.

Why will they allow people to dress like this in the Church for Mass? This is a total insult to Christ.

We sit down with hereditary peer Charles Courtenay, the 19th Earl of Devon, as he prepares to be removed from the House of Lords. He argues that his long lineage and the fact that his ancestors fought in the Crusades provide Parliament with a valuable connection to our past.

@DonutOperator I'm getting a bunch of "I hate the Catholic Church" in place of the Japanese moto hotties from the last few weeks. Is there another Christian war happening of which I am unaware?

Fr Calvin Robinson ©️®️
Women cannot become archbishops. Men and women are equal in dignity but not interchangeable. This is not misogyny, this is 2,000 years of Church teaching. The Church of England has no authority to change that teaching. Call it what it is: dissent, heresy, apostasy.
Angela Tilby@AngelaTilby

Calvin, this is pure misogyny. Archbishop Michael Ramsay was given an episcopal ring by Paul V1. How dare you distort history and the true relationship between Anglicans and Catholics. @fathereddy @PeterBolton3

Is the action taken by this bishop considered inappropriate? This situation is inappropriate. Yes, the Bishop is wrong, and here’s why: It is not suitable for a Catholic Cleric to engage in sports/play of any kind while fully vested, as liturgical vestments like the chasuble and stole are sacred symbols set apart for divine worship, not for secular use. Canon Law 1171 emphasizes the need for reverence toward sacred objects, and wearing them during sports risks causing scandal. It diminishes the significance of acting in persona Christi and treats the holy as common. While a priest may wear a cassock or clerical attire during recreation, vestments should be removed after Mass before engaging in any physical activity the sacred belongs at the altar. I just saw some tweet saying the Riders of Rohan in LOTR should’ve had women in it. When she was told that this would damage Eowyn’s character arc, she said the plot should’ve been changed & Eowyn should’ve had a scene where she led a charge of female warriors into battle.

Today’s raids by state and federal law enforcement happened because our state agencies caught irregular behavior and reported it. That’s how the system is supposed to work, and our agencies will keep at it as long as there are fraudsters around to put behind bars.

If you commit fraud in Minnesota you’re going to get caught — and that’s exactly what we saw today. We catch criminals when state and federal agencies share information. Joint investigations work, and securing justice depends on it.

@JakeDunnegan @MickamiousG Agreed. Andor and Rogue One make the cut. TV Clone Wars (2008+) was still Lucas. He sold the company in 2012 so we're in the clear.

I disagree that "everything after 2005" was dog shit. Andor was fantastic. Mandalorian had a couple of good seasons. The Clone Wars (tv series, not movie) had classic story arcs and was considered fantastic by any measure (91% on RT). SW Rebels was very good (85% on RT). But, I agree heartily that Disney ruined SW.

Disney ruined Star Wars. Actually not ruined, they destroyed Star Wars. Everything from 1999 to 2005 was epic. Everything after that was absolute dog shit and that’s being polite.

The Catholic Church does not "forbid" independent Bible study. It has historically taught the flock to do it together, or "with guidance", to ensure contextual understanding - which is important for a modern person reading something written centuries ago. Otherwise, learning Bibles would not exist (and they do in every version / denomination). Classical literature is taught in this manner in every school and/or faith worthy of attention. I have been to plenty of Protestant churches that say and do the same thing (excluding Episcopal / Anglican from that Protestant generalization - that's just Diet Catholic). Every organized faith drags the anchor of contradiction. There are humans involved and thus, it is inevitable.

Millions who began to study the Bible personally have left Catholicism. This is truly a historical fact: The Waldensians, Lollards, Protestant Reformers, former priests and scholars, modern Catholics who begin reading Scripture devotionally etc. The Catholic Church forbids independent Bible study for this very reason. The moment people stop reading Scripture through the Catholic filter, the contradictions become painfully obvious. The Bible does not lead people into Romanism. The Bible leads people out of Romanism. If Catholics prayerfully and humbly studied the Scriptures with the desire to obey Christ above church tradition, they would be forced to confront doctrines that contradict the Bible and they would leave Roman Catholicism.
