When I moved to NC 15 years ago, I first volunteered at a few local shelters. While I enjoyed it for the most part, the lack of control was tough. Having to see needless waste and poor decisions made due to inexperience or egos was too much for me. I wanted to try it on my own. The problem was that I wasn't financially in a position to buy a large enough chunk of land in this market. Even though we are an hour north of Raleigh it's big bucks and subdivisions are being built everywhere.
I met a man cleaning up after a dog fight was busted one night. He offered me a 10-year lease on enough land to do this, and it included a dumpy doublewide on it. We did a handshake deal and been here since. After the 10 years Tom just said let it ride. We have been friends since meeting, and it's been a good thing for us and the pups saved over the years.
Tom had a stroke and is in a coma now. He's 91 and they are not optimistic about his recovery. His son is here from FL and I will be meeting with him today. He has previously advised that Tom sell the land as its value is through the roof now due to "progress".
We had a pro put together an album of all that we have been able to do over the years in hope that he sees the physical value of life as well as the financial value of the land. There are other rescues here that are in similar positions due to the increase of property taxes.
This is why I haven't posted much. Just in limbo here right now and have been busy making sure we have places for those we have here now to go. That is secure. If we have to pack up tomorrow, we can have all safe by sunset. We have also started looking for other land to rent, further away from the sprawl. A lot of locals are helping, and we are hopeful. It was just a lot to consider unexpectedly, along with seeing a friend in a coma.
The bottom line is that we are continuing to do the work and will likely know this week. Good or bad. We will also continue the work regardless of geography. It may take a minute to figure it out, but I can't walk away from rescue. Just wanted to let you know what's happening here and why I haven't been posting much lately. Thanks.

JUST IN: Los Angeles authorities are currently carrying out potentially the largest animal rescue operation in United States history.
L.A. officials are reportedly removing an estimated 700 dogs and cats from a property in Antelope Valley.
According to investigators, the animals were in the care of Christine De Anda of Rock N Pawz animal rescue.
During the search, about 400 dogs and 300 cats were found.
Dozens of LA County Department of Animal Care and Control staff members and mutual aid partners arrived at the scene and provided medical aid to the animals.
"This is the largest number of dogs and cats that DACC has ever seized and may be the largest case ever in the United States," LACO Animals said in a statement.

@_DOGPOOL_ Why is wrong with people. Every dog matters.
So sorry you lost a couple of days 😞
English

I lost access to my account a few days ago. Likely because I posted a dog was murdered, not "euthanized" and someone took the opportunity to grind an axe. Had no explanation from X.
I won't change. I won't be muzzled. Facts matter.
Whoever did it stopped me from helping dogs here but had no effect whatsoever locally. All they did is possibly stop a dog or two from being saved. I don't have huge reach but every repost matters.
On the road for work today but tomorrow I will show a few saves we did in the meantime locally and continue to back others by reposting.
Please be better than this. Rise above and concentrate on the puppers. We should all be able to agree on that. Thanks.

@JohnEDeaton1 @EdMarkey Let’s talk about the taxes in Massachusetts FIRST
That is what is destroying the state.

The great irony in MA is that I’m the Republican Nominee for U.S. Senate - running against the co-author of the Green New Deal - @EdMarkey.
Yet, take a guess which one of us has solar panels on our house?
It’s not Ed Markey - not in Chevy Chase Maryland or in Malden.
I also drive a Tesla and @elonmusk is right - after driving one - rather, letting it drive me wherever I want to go - you don’t want to drive anything else. Fact; my Model Y is faster than the AMG I used to drive.
Although I drive an EV and have solar panels on my house - the good news is that unlike my political opponent, I’m well aware of the fact that MA can’t solve climate change by itself. Our annual carbon emissions is less than 2 days of China’s. It’s insane to punish MA businesses, residents and taxpayers by push net zero mandates by some arbitrary date.
The good news: I have an energy plan that expands both solar and natural gas while incorporating nuclear - by strategically placing 4 300MW SMRs and powering nearly 40% of the 2.9 million homes across the Commonwealth - driving costs down significantly.

NEW: I'm a Republican who drives a Tesla and put solar on his family’s home. Yes, really. Conservatives can love clean energy. Here’s why I’m all-in on solar for Miami’s and America's future: realclearenergy.org/articles/2026/…

When Trump leaves office:
The Department of War will go back to being the Defense Department.
The Trump Kennedy Center will go back to being the Kennedy Center.
The Gulf of America will once again be the Gulf of Mexico.
The unfinished East Wing (it won't be finished by the end of Trump's term) will be rebuilt by the next president, and it will not be a ballroom.
Federal agencies packed with unqualified loyalists will fire those people and rehire the career experts Trump fired.
The Department of Justice will go back to enforcing the law instead of protecting the president.
Scientific agencies like NOAA, the EPA, and the CDC will go back to publishing research without political interference.
The U.S. will re-align with its allies and not with its enemies.
The presidential pardon power will stop being used as a rewards program for loyalists.
Inspectors General will go back to investigating corruption instead of getting fired for it.
The White House press room will go back to having briefings, with real journalists and not podcasters.
U.S. foreign policy will stop revolving around flattering dictators.
And the world will progress as though Donald Trump never existed.

I would like the U.S. not to perceive Ukraine as a country that merely asks for help. That is not the case. Ukraine is defending interests and values. Of course, the U.S. is right when it says it is farther from this war than Europe. That is understandable. But we see U.S. allies in the Middle East, and we see what – and who – threatens them.
The war is not as far away as it may seem. We need to act as quickly as possible, and the whole world needs to wake up. It is no longer the case that someone can simply buy modern weapons or extract oil and gas and remain safe. Security comes from having the most advanced technologies and constantly developing them.
If we don’t come up with a quick solution, if we don’t join forces with our allies leveraging the technology and expertise that have emerged from the war, if there is no combat-capable security alliance, then war will ensue. War comes when you are weak or alone. Enemies see when alliances are divided.
From an interview with New York Post (3/5).

@SusieWiles You’ve got this Susie. You are an amazing strong woman.
Keeping you in my prayers 🙏🙏🙏

Last week, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Nearly one in eight women in the United States will face this diagnosis. Every day, these women continue to raise their families, go to work, and serve their communities with strength and determination. I now join their ranks.
I am grateful to have an outstanding team of doctors who detected the cancer early and are guiding my care, and I am encouraged by a very good prognosis.
I am also deeply thankful for the support and encouragement of President Trump as I undergo treatment and continue serving in my role as White House Chief of Staff.
