@thefreightnerd This is the single best way to get rid of the low IQ carriers and it works so beautifully because it happened so fast

This may be the single most important chart in all of trucking right now. Contract linehauls are holding steady while spot linehaul allocations are getting absolutely rocked. Winners: +Large carriers +Brokers +Shippers (kind of) Losers -Small Carriers If any small carrier out there on FreightX needs help arming themselves with data on how to negotiate for increased fuel prices, please reach out.

@thefreightnerd Love it. It's like testosterone—the higher the fuel prices go, the better it feels. Get rid of the ignorant; purge those people. We don't need them, and once they're gone, the good times will begin.

Steve is crushing fuel mileage in his new international. He has a fuel cost of just 32 cents per mile. Notice the break in period, mpg steadily climbing. Can anyone do the math? With FSC, what is Steve's total fuel cost per mile...

@JamesCaperton @lets_truck Yes, you're correct, I used to get everyone to get it, but times have changed, and now there are many other companies with fuel cards that are just as good. Just think, I did all that for free, too.

@ChadBoblett @lets_truck Good morning. I actually remember when you joined and how enthusiastic you were about being a member. You spoke so highly of David when we chatted on the phone. As always I wish you continued success in your career.

@thefreightnerd I will show what I am talking about. I'm not the only one who loves high fuel prices.

@ChadBoblett I would tell you that it’s statistically impossible for everyone to get the highest rates, but what do I know?

Reefer linehaul rates for small carriers who don't have contract freight with structured fuel surcharge programs have hit the lowest point of the year. Demand softness and increased fuel prices have completely wiped out the weather-related rally that drove a seasonally atypical spike in early February. As long as upward pressure remains on diesel, I expect this trend to continue.

@thefreightnerd This kind of purge does not last long, and it feels good to the carriers who know what they're doing. Soon, the only carriers left are the ones that get the highest rates in the Industry. What happens then?

@ChadBoblett But this data proves that isn’t happening. Small carriers aren’t capturing the increase in fuel with their all-in negotiations. I agree that now is the time to be smart and negotiate aggressively to protect from margin erosion.

"Just say no to cheap freight" means nothing. But give me high fuel prices, and I know you'll say no to cheap freight because you will park your truck until you can afford the fuel. The most ignorant owner-operator will get smart real quick when they pay more at the pump. The good thing is that this kind of purge does not last long.

@ChadBoblett I’m completely lost because what you said is incoherent. Are you suggesting that high fuel prices are good for small carriers?

@thefreightnerd What's the point of your post unless it's the very, very small change you noticed, not really that big of a deal? I can't share cause it doesn't mean anything

@ChadBoblett So we've established that February comes after January and seemingly agree about what. What other issues did you have?

It's incredible how responsive fleet counts are to short-term rate movements. It also speaks to how low current barriers to entry still are within the industry. In the 5 months preceding February, the market net attrited over 1,000 interstate motor carriers per month. The preliminary data for last month shows the count almost breaking even. This is a sharp snap back towards expansion compared to the prior few months.

@FreightAlley I took my test by memorizing the answers. To be honest, I have zero clue how to handle hazmat.

This one hour “class” gives you a certification to haul the most dangerous chemicals and explosives 70 mph down the highway. Coming to your city!
Adam L. Wingfield 🚛👨🏾‍💻@adamlwingfield

For only $23 and one hour of your time, you too can get your hazmat endorsement and haul the most hazardous materials, chemicals and dangerous concoctions. Never mind the European truck they used with the American flag in the logo. They even threw in the “ @FMCSA approved” logo on there for endorsement(I didn’t think you were permitted to do so)

The ATA's Chief Economist has suddenly reversed course on the truck driver shortage after their member fleets realized how damaging this narrative was to their own interests. The ATA has attacked me and accused me of "peddling narratives" to drive our "bottom line." Not true, never was. In fact, a few large fleets cut off SONAR out of peer pressure - but the data doesn't lie. There was never a perpetual truck driver shortage. ATA is a lobbyist organization and is in the business of "peddling narratives." Pot meet kettle. If the ATA had any integrity, they would admit that their analysis of the truck driver shortage was always flawed and biased. The massive proliferation of small unregulated fleet operators and bottomless pit of unqualified truck drivers destroyed the safety, security, and economics of the trucking industry. Note: ATA's Chris Spear testified in August 2025 that the truck driver shortage was real and said that those that ignore it have personal agendas. Wrong Mr. Spear, we know how to look at the data. Perhaps its time for the ATA to subscribe to SONAR?
