@HDRgameAnalysis What settings do you recommend for my ASUS XD32UCDS on PS5 Pro?

Washed out HDR in Resident Evil Requiem. I have now had a lot more time with the game on PS5 and PC, and played it in both SDR, HDR and used the RenoDX mod on PC. In my quick HDR analysis, based on only the very start of the game, I said that there was only a minor black level raise. That's true when we are in almost total black scenes. I also noted that all the tiny fog on the screen ruined the presentation, contrast and detail for me. I didn't think it was because of HDR. But its now clear to me that HDR is also a cause of this. I will try and demonstrate it in the 4 pictures below. - Picture 1 - HDR on PS5 Pro - Picture 2 - SDR on PS5 Pro - Picture 3 - HDR Always On (SDR) - PS5 Pro - Picture 4 - RenoDX - normal RT - PC My camera's exposure makes it a bit difficult to fully show the differences I see, but I think it illustrates the issue. Picture one looks noticeable brighter overall and in the shadows than the other 3 pictures. The diagram also shows this. There seams to be several reasons for this happening, and I wont pretend to fully understand the technical reasons for this. I will just conclude that HDR is broken. Even more broken then I initially thought. I will in my next post show what the modder of RenoDX writes about what he has fixed to the HDR. When a game looks so different between SDR and HDR, then you wont get to experience the game as the artists intended by playing in HDR. This changes my recommendations for the game. If you are gaming on PC, then use the RenoDX mod and get amazing HDR. The modder has made sure the HDR is looking as he thinks the developers would have wanted HDR to look, based on how SDR looks👍 If you game on console (PS5) then I recommend you try out SDR. You may still prefer the HDR presentation if you game on a TV that can take full advantage of the 940 nits output of the game. But the game is generally so dim, that in this case I would suggest trying out SDR. Be aware that if you change to SDR in the ingame menu it may not change to SDR output. You have to change the colors back and forth for the game to activate SDR. At least that was the case for me on PS5 Pro. This could be why many haven't actually experienced the games real SDR. When playing in SDR on PS5 you have two options. In PS5s system menu you can set PS5 to output SDR or HDR Always on. SDR simply outputs SDR. HDR always on converts the SDR signal to HDR, so your TV stays in its HDR picture mode. When PS5 does this conversion it stretches the color space, so colors will look slightly more saturated. It will also fixate the HDR max luminance to 230 nits. And PS5 will slightly reduce the detail in black levels in the conversion. Its not a massive change in this case. HDR always on therefore changes how the game is intended to look, so I recommend setting it to SDR in PS5s system menu. When you game in SDR, its important that your TV is setup correctly. This is a total subject in itself. The game is a bit dark in the shadows, by design. If you want more shadow detail, you can increase shadows on your TV. I prefer the dark shadows in dark horror game. On PC we can play with path tracing. It uses a lot more rays to better calculate how a games image is lit up by indirect lighting and how the shadows must look. That usually means more shadow detail. Its also the case here. In the next post below, I will show how it looks with path tracing. I of course prefer how path tracing makes the whole image look more correct. I haven't tried the game on base PS5, so here shadows can look totally different.
