@HDRgameAnalysis Set it to 40 on my G5 as well. Looks much more natural and nuanced.

Quick preliminary setup guide for Crimson Desert on PC and PS5. I have only had very little time with the game. But this is how I would set up HDR on a 1000 and 2000 nits TV. Picture 1 is my settings for a 1000 nits TV and picture 3 for a 2000 nits TV. HDR is implemented the same way on PC and PS5. Black levels: There are no setting to adjust black levels. Luckily they look fine, so those we don’t have to worry about. Max luminance: Max brightness is setup in-game. Set to what your TV can output on a 10% window. The game outputs the nits you set in the slider. Thats great because not all games do that. Screen brightness (exposure). The exposure slider adjusts the brightness on the whole screen. For a 1000 nits TV we want around a screen brightness (paper white) of around 203 nits. A setting of 40 looks to be around 203 nits to me. In picture 2 we can see brigntess is around 203 nits at exposure setting of 40. For a 2000 nits TV we want a higher screen brightness. When our TVs can output higher max brightness then there are room for higher screen brightness while our highlights can still pop. I suggest setting exposure to 50. In picture 4 we see screen brightness is around 280-300 nits. I won’t suggest going lower than 40 or much higher than 50 for exposure, because exposure slightly changes lower shadows and I think they will get to low or to lifted. I noticed that at night fire lights up everything with a red glow or color. It looks very unnatural. We can’t change that in-game, but maybe there will be mods for PC that corrects this. HDR overall looks punchy with great contrast and black levels.

Sorry, I thought you asked about Crimson Desert. I’m getting tired from answering all those questions ☺️ G5 can do 2100 nits in game mode, so here we usually want around 345 nits paper white or game brightness. But thats in theory only. Game brightness can’t be setup exactly, as peak luminance can. I have set to 267 nits because I think thats looks most natural to me on my 2000 nits TV in this game in my rooms lighting conditions. You can use that as a starting point and try and increase it further. Or lower it.

These are my RenoDX settings in Death Stranding 2 on PC. They will give you those inky blacks for our OLEDs during night time, out in the open world. The important settings to change are; - LUT strength 25 - Shadow contrast 55 - Shadows 50 Peak brightness is to be set at what your display can do on a 10% window. Most should set game brightness to 203, but if you have a very bright 2000 nits TV like me, then sit it a bit higher. Set UI brightness to the same as game brightness.

@__PS7__ I would try and use 50 exposure as a starting point. Try and adjust upwards to 55-60 if that looks more natural to you. The LG G5 is a very bright TV, so it can handle that brightness, but it has to look natural to you.

@melchori0 800 nits max and 40 exposure. Use my 40 nits exposure as a starting point and adjust to what looks most natural to you.

There is this new HDR brightness slider in the PC version too. In picture 1 you can see the settings in your picture. I don’t know if you are using these, but there is a massive black level raise, when you increase the new HDR brightness slider to 100. In picture 2 I use my recommend setting of 2 HDR Luminosity. I keep the new slider at 50. We can’t fix the black level raise anyway. It will just decrease overall brightness even more. I actually don’t see a use for the new slider. Maybe to increase brightness if you game in a very bright room ?

@HDRgameAnalysis Are these settings also in the PC version? They got added to console. It helps a lot with maintaining paper white with better black level

@JosephStPaul This is the massive black level raise at night time out in the open world if you don’t adjust LUTs. Thats why I think its worth changing the LUTs.

@HDRgameAnalysis Obviously, much appreciation for doing these guides and putting love in it! However, "best HDR settings" for RenoDX mods have limited value, as mods are already defaulted to proper values. Your taste is as subjective as the modder who made it.

HDR analyses Death Stranding 2 on PC. HDR is broken if you use DLSS 😪 With DLSS the game only outputs 300 nits maximum so highlights, like the Sun in the sky, looks totally washed out. See picture 1. In picture 2 I have used the Pico upscaler instead and here HDR is not broken (or not so broken☺️). Other than that HDR is implemented the same way as on PS5. See my analyses in the link. The issues I pointed out in my PS5 analysis seams fixed in the RenoDX HDR mod that has already released 👍 Picture 4 is with the RenoDX mod. In picture 3 you can see the issues the Modder has fixed with RenoDX 👍 So PC gamers should use the RenoDX HDR mod, as always. I will in the next post link to where you can get the RenoDX mod (a version that works with DLSS). Turn on HDR in-game and leave in-game HDR settings at default. I will over the next days play Death Stranding more and make updates if relevant. I recommend visiting the RenoDX Discord Server to get updated info and to support the Modders.

In the first two pictures we can see the snow is around 203 nits bright with 1000 and 2000 nits peak. So paper white is fixed at around 203 nits no matter the games peak brightness. Thats not what we want. We need 343 nits for 2000 nits peak brightness. In picture 3 and 4 its the same. I see no change from 1000 to 2000 nits and many assets on screen goes up to around 203 nits, when looking in the opposite direction of the Sun.

3000 nits on the slider and 50 exposure. You can try and increase exposure a bit more because a 3000 nits capable TV can also handle a higher overall brightness. I have tried 60 and that lifted lower shadows to much for my taste. So try and increase exposure a bit more or simply stay at 50.
