@fleshsimulator @atlanticesque In their defense, according to most accounts Rowland was mostly likely innocent and a black man being strung up on false pretenses wasn’t exactly an unfounded fear in the Jim Crow Era.

@JJ_McCullough A good example of this is the scene from the Tintin comic Destination Moon (1953) where Professor Calculus flies of the handle from being called a goat, which I imagine would strike a younger reader as peculiar rather than comically extreme.

"Goat" is a good example of a slang term that has completely changed in meaning in recent years. A usage from 2002, as in this review of the movie "Frida" by Roger Ebert, now reads to modern eyes as having the exact opposite meaning of what was originally intended.

@agraybee This also says Angola had ‘regime change’ despite the MPLA being in charge for 50+ years and Jonas Savimbi being turned into Swiss cheese in a random firefight in 2002, despite the combined efforts of the US, China, and SA. This is deeply unserious.

No, it’s not. That the government interred Japanese during WWII does not mean at all that their neighbors and fellow citizens had issues with them. I have concerns that Chinese students help the CCP, but I’ve never seen, or heard of, Chinese neighbors being an issue. You’re twisting things because you don’t like people noticing.

@CartoonsHateHer Funnily enough, my high school physics teacher was also a part-time magician. That was also the least eccentric thing about him.

@AzanKhan30 @BrahminReich @DrewPavlou That is incorrect. Lebensraum came from the Drang nach Osten (Drive to the East) concept, which circulated among German nationalists as long and probably longer than any concept of Manifest Destiny. If the US stopped at the Mississippi, Lebensraum would've still existed.

@BrahminReich @DrewPavlou Lebensraum is a straight copy of Manifest destiny. Hitler was writing erotica about America before WW2.

@gehteuchnix48 @TrueSlazac 1) Expropriation without compensation, while bad isn’t genocide and 2) SA suffers tens of thousands of murders a year, overwhelming black men, with more dying per day on average than all farm murder per year. They ‘do nothing’ because crime is endemic and law enforcement weak.

@TrueSlazac But the gov did the land stealing law and does nothing about the farm murders even without EFF.
