"It's still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity." This #MandelaDay, ECSA reaffirms its commitment to using engineering as a catalyst for social transformation. Every project we undertake is an opportunity to bridge the inequality gap and build a stronger SA. 🏗️✨#ECSA

"After more than four decades of apartheid, our nation is divided, among those who have electricity, and those who do not, among those who have running water and those who do not, among those who have access to transportation and those who do not, among those who have houses and those who do not. The general state of our communities is one of underdevelopment and decay. To our nations engineers, I say, your country needs you now more than ever before. Let us build a future together." ~ Nelson Mandela at the Centenary Conference of @SAIMechE / 30 August 1993 @NelsonMandela #AgendaForEngineering #MandelaDay2026 #EngineersCanChangeThings #PoliticalWill #EngineeringProwess

South Africa is blessed with world-class engineers. Their responsibility is not only to build roads, dams, power stations, and water systems, but also the governance, accountability, and institutions that sustain them for generations to come. We call on those who hinder professional engineering practitioners #engineers from delivering quality service to put the country first. Policymakers must strengthen legislation and procurement systems to ensure that only suitably qualified and professionally registered engineering practitioners (#ConsultingEngineers) and contractors are awarded tenders for public infrastructure projects. @Treasury_RSA and @DepartmentPWI have a critical role to play in protecting infrastructure investment, strengthening accountability, and enabling professional excellence in service delivery. #Accountability #InfrastructureGovernance #Ch9EngineerGeneral #ServiceDelivery #CityEngineers #SouthAfricaWorksBecauseOfPublicWorks #LetsBuildSA 🇿🇦

@ChangingthingsS @DepartmentPWI Do we really still have engineers in SA🤔 The type of roads that municipalities are constructing leaves some of us with lot of questions. Communities are given roads that do not channel water to the drainage, water congregate in the middle of some new paved roads What's going on

As engineers and South Africans affected by infrastructure failure, we hope the @DepartmentPWI consultations on #EGSA will champion the establishment of an Engineer-General as a Chapter 9 institution, ensuring accountability, technical oversight, value for money, and the implementation excellence. needed to change things. #Ch9EngineerGeneral 🇿🇦🏗️⚙️

Engineering leadership is essential to the sustainability, safety, and performance of public infrastructure. Regardless of the institutional model adopted, the key objective should be strengthening engineering capacity, accountability, and technical excellence in the public interest. Engineers have an important role to play in helping South Africa address its infrastructure challenges through expertise, innovation, and ethical practice. #EngChangeThings #EngineeringLeadership #InfrastructureDevelopment #Bridges
