To make it make some sense they had to grossly overuse special effects and impact frames, but that made it look even more shit.

I'm not against criticizing the game for its use of AI, but it's dishonest to use that as an excuse to attack other non-AI elements of the game. A badly directed scene is just that, no reason to fantasize something else

@smollv2 @NTE_GL It makes no sense for you to wish for the artists, VAs and designers that worked on the game to lose their jobs while doing so in their name. The devs should remove the ai, thus fixing the game, not nuke the game, making everyone working on it to lose their jobs.

NTE Drama I’m writing this post because of the massive number of DMs from players asking for refunds over claims that the game was made with AI. We need to clarify a few points, as the situation is escalating quite a bit. The game wasn’t made with a simple ChatGPT prompt like “make me a game, please.” It was created by programmers, musicians, voice actors, artists, writers, and many other staff members who have been working on it for years. If it were truly a soulless project in such a competitive industry, it simply wouldn’t stand out the way it has. We can’t deny that AI may have been used for certain types of assets that do not represent the final product, but that still doesn’t fully address the underlying issue. As for an official statement from Hotta Studio, we have already reached out and are currently waiting for a response. This may take some time, as it is currently Golden Week in China, which includes several non-working holidays. Regarding the sponsorship situation and the denial of AI use, it’s important to clarify that each department operates independently. This falls under the marketing department’s responsibility in terms of communication with influencers, and the situation was not handled with complete transparency. We are currently awaiting an official statement from the staff regarding the controversy that has emerged. The situation is delicate. While the issue originated in Asia and was actually received fairly positively there, it has now escalated to the point where forums in China and Japan are discussing the controversy being stirred up by the West over what many consider to be a minor issue. Many influencers are protesting and have stopped creating content, which worries players who are genuinely enjoying the game, as they fear this situation could negatively affect its future. Let’s hope for the best.

@meliscarlettx @LegionzGaming It's fair to say their use of AI is shitty, but this lying about the battle cutscene and dialogue is ridiculous. No there is no AI in that cutscene and no AI in the writing. Criticize the AI use in the things it was actually used on.

It’s impressive how well put together NTE’s story is. Finally finished all 4 episodes and all the spin-offs and it’s genuinely solid. I really like the fact that the Eibon crew are essentially the game’s Main Cast with them being major players in most quests. Each “episode” really puts in the work to establish their bonds and develop them, getting you invested in them as well. And it is through them that the wider cast and world get established. Like the Sterry Express crew who are first teased in Pawn Moonlight, then given major focus in Ep 3 with Hotori’s relationship to them(especially Jiuyuan) getting developed and the main plot starting to get teased. Then we get a spin off all abt Haniel, Akane, Zero and Nanally starting a band together lmfao. I’m also glad that extremely lore and plot revelant characters like Hotori and Daffodil are established early on instead of simply when they are revelant. Instead their lore revelance is teased with tid bits here and there, slowly building these characters over time. It reminds me of those episodic shows that slowly builds towards a larger overarching narrative. The way character dynamics have been written too is just pure gold. Both Eibon and Sterry feel like found families and Haniel and Nanally’s friendship is beyond adorable. The story isn’t great per say yet, it has yet to emotionally grab me as much as made me burst out laughing. But I do think it will get there as we get more meat every patch. 1.1 is esp exciting cuz Hotori is dropping which prob means more Hotori lore.

Pink pawns heist also has a cartoon clip that looks extremely AI on it. But that's it. The rest of the game is being attacked for it, even if it doesn't use AI at all.

Generative AI is unable to come up with deep, meaningful art. NTE looks pretty, but nothing feels intentional, nothing feels like there is a deeper meaning to it, both in design and in the story. It all feels like a big compilation of a ton of things that were already there, just pushed into a single game and that's why some say it feels hollow and soulless. We live in a capitalistic world and companies will obviously try to use GenAI, since it's the new tech thing that saves money and that's what it's all about. But that shit is a phase, as long as we call it out, when they push it too far. This is one such case, where that horrendous stuff made it into the final game. And before someone talks about placeholders, there is an entire animated cutscene that is completely AI-generated. I adore the concept of the game and I don't mind, if it is more of an everything game that does not go too deep into anything, but if it is VISIBLY made using the very tool that eliminates creativity and human passion in one of humanities greatest forms of art (and yes, that's games), even partially, I can't condone it.

@KatoroOwo @kamisatokitty @neferiouz No, the cutscenes do not use AI animation. They are not "choppy", you're mentioning a single cutscene that has problems but the game has a lot of cutscenes apart from that single one.
