Check out this massive #Neolithic core stone!
While most cores are palm-sized, this monster is the "mother ship" of #flint tool production.Imagine the master crafters 5,000 years ago knocking off hundreds of razor-sharp blades from this one block. Pure lithic perfection!#ArchIllu

@Race2Extinct here at 8,750 ft elevation the snow run off is happening 2-3 months ahead of time. plants at 6-7,000 are awakening soaking up the water before it gets to powell. pollinators aren't around yet for those blooming plants...mercury methylation, disappearing mycelium in the meadows...

Another Colorado River article framing the basin’s water crisis as a policy failure.
But in one sense the Colorado Compact worked.
It delayed collapse for nearly four decades which from a human perspective is remarkable. Very few aquatic systems tolerate that level of over-allocation without failing much sooner.
The illusion was believing enormous amounts of water could be diverted without consequences.
Ecology always settles the account.

@ThomasWayneRil1 Is this near Los Alamos and Bandelier or closer to Taos, NM?
English

Frijoles Canyon. A Clovis point was found here. When it was later occupied full time, the people were probably incorporated into Chaco. But the Mesa Verdeans eventually moved nearby so the two groups (Bandelier peoples & Mesa Verdeans) were probably on good terms at Chaco’s end.

Here he is in his Colorado River t-shirt. We come from a long line of "extremely accomplished river-men," according to the University of Wisconsin.

RIP Grandpa Jack (1924-2026). He died a few hours after I tweeted this by total coincidence. Hilarious guy who fought the Nazis in WWII and had 12 kids and 40+ grandkids.
