@FabrizioRomano Either Atlético president Cerezo can't count, or the translator didn't think that through to the end.

🚨 Atlético president Cerezo: “I’m going to explain it to you very clearly, and you’re smart and you’re going to understand it”. “I’m going to explain it to you in three words: Alvarez has a contract with Atlético Madrid”.

@TotalVilla_ Positional sense and ball skills looked good, but he seemed totally unready for the intensity and physicality of first-team football. Maybe he can learn to cope, but Villa can't afford to carry a passenger while he's learning. A loan is probably the best thing for him.

When we had our midfield injuries, I thought it was a good opportunity for George Hemmings. However, in 2026 he’s played 17 Premier League minutes and 46 Europa League minutes across two games. I really hoped he’d have played more. Surely he goes on loan next season ✍️ #avfc

@BBCMOTD Disagree. Bigger total squads & matchday squads make it easier for £££ clubs to monopolise talent (everyone gets a game) & cope w injuries, form dips & transfer mistakes. Bigger squads = bigger inequalities. MA wants what's best for Arsenal now, not best for football long term.

Mikel Arteta wants bigger matchday squads in the Premier League 📈 Managers can currently name seven subs, but in the Champions League they are allowed nine on the bench.

@TheVillaPolls Over the 90 minutes, it was either Martinez or Mings (yes, he made one huge blunder, but was imperious the rest of the time). Cameos: Cash, Young and Jimoh. But Jimoh just about edges it for me. Really good attitude, looking for the goal every time he got the ball.

@TheVillaPolls Seriously? I mean, he was busy, he did some good things, certainly, but he gave the ball away more times than I can remember and showed poor awareness of the game situation in terms of when to play safe and when to try something on. A very mixed performance.

@jmcginn7 Use the time off to do some upper body work in the gym. You'll be needing to lift some big trophies in May.

@5liveSport @PatNevin @BBCSounds Pat is in a small minority. Most fans, certainly stadium fans *hate* VAR and would gladly accept a few bad decisions to get the spontaneity and atmosphere back. Especially given that idiotic decisions seem to be just as common with VAR as without.

Exc: Understand Minnesota's Eric Ramsay, 34, interesting #wba again. Was a strong candidate last summer. Albion will have other targets and Ramsay - ex-Chels & Man Utd - is in work, but he is well-regarded & done top job in 🇺🇸. Bit more in tale about PSR. expressandstar.com/sport/football…

@FlyingFrome @lucyjward_ They don't care whether anyone believes them, any more than Russia cared who believed their claim that its agents in Salisbury were there to see the cathedral. For Trump, like Putin, might is right; there is no morality. And it's two fingers up to everyone else.

@TheVillaPolls Ref can't give a foul when the ball isn't in play. But he can give cards, and IIRC he gave Rogers one for that incident. Why James didn't get one as well, God only knows. I'd like to see more cards given out, even if that leads to reds, bc the wrestling is getting beyond a joke.

@TotalVilla_ I don't understand either. But I know that the best manager we've had for decades (maybe ever) sees him regularly in training and doesn't apparently like what he sees. And that's good enough for me.

In the 2023-24 season, Harvey Elliot played 1,335 minutes across 34 Premier League games and got three goals and nine assists. That’s a goal or an assist every 111 minutes. I know that was for Liverpool but I don’t understand why we don’t want him 🤯 #avfc

@Footballtweet Nearly as 'prime Barcelona' as the one Villa scored against Arsenal in 2023 in a move involving all eleven players and about fifteen passes without Arsenal getting a touch.

@AVFCOfficial Has anyone at @AVFCOfficial tried filling in that form at the end of the voting dialogue? DoB has to be entered by selecting from a calendar; no option to type. So you have to swipe back through every month until your birth year! If you're not a toddler, that's a lot of swiping!

@Avonholm @StanCollymore I lived through those days too, and I missed out too. Our loss was English football's gain. English football was forced to change, and it changed for the better. The ban worked.

@StanCollymore It's wrong to ban all for the actions of a few. I and many others missed out on European football in the late 80's for that reason.

@SnapfishUK Appalled by your service! Ordered prints, express delivery for a funeral service. Should have arrived today before 4pm. Not even dispatched yet! No apology, no contact to say order is late. Not even any way to contact you to complain! Last order I ever place with you!

@Total_Villa If one of our players had gone down like that, I'd have been embarrassed. Forward clearly engineered the contact. Handball incident was more debatable. I don't think that handball should be given in situations like that, but in the modern game it often is.

Marco Silva 🗣️ "It is very difficult for me to say that Martinez is not a penalty. If a player is taken out inside the box, it is a penalty everywhere in the world.” 🧤 If that was an Aston Villa player vs Bernd Leno, would you have wanted a penalty? 🤔 #avfc

It seems with the collapse of any meaningful commitment to a rules-based international order - replaced instead by a raw-power dialogue shaped by might over right - every country in the global South watching Gaza burn and witnessing strikes on Iran is asking the same question: Are we next? Some will now draw the darkest of conclusions. That to avoid the fate of Gaza or Iraq, or Libya - they too must consider acquiring biological or even nuclear capabilities. Deterrence, not diplomacy, becomes the lesson. We are not making the world safer. We are making it infinitely more dangerous. And for Britain to so uncritically align itself with the actions of Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu - two hard-right authoritarians with little respect for democracy or the international norms that sustain it - is not just morally indefensible. It’s a dangerous travesty that risks dragging us into wars we did not start, and whose consequences we will all have to bear.
