@barauijibrin "Tribute to Dr Bature Abdulaziz 🙏. Senate observes one-minute silence for this patriot, businessman, and philanthropist 💔. May his legacy inspire generations #RIPDrBature #LegacyOfService"

Senate mourns late Dr Bature Abdulaziz
Today, during our plenary session of the Senate, I presented a motion to honour the life and legacy of a true patriot, businessman, and philanthropist, the late Dr Bature Abdulaziz, who passed away two weeks ago.
Dr Bature Abdulaziz has served the country immensely through the private sector; hence, the need to honour and reflect on his legacy so that he will be emulated across the country.
Born in 1950 in Adakawa Quarters of Dala Local Government Area, Kano, Dr Bature Abdulaziz lived a remarkable life defined by service, enterprise, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of traders and business communities in Kano State, the North, and Nigeria at large.
He was a businessman par excellence and a fearless advocate for local traders. Through his vision and leadership, he played a major role in expanding and developing several major and minor markets across Kano State and Northern Nigeria. He consistently spoke up for the protection and empowerment of indigenous traders, calling for government policies that would shield them from unfair disadvantages arising from the activities of foreign traders.
Beyond advocacy, his impact was practical and far-reaching. Through the companies he promoted, Dr Bature Abdulaziz employed thousands of Nigerians, uplifting families and strengthening our economy. He served with distinction as Chairman of UBSS Nigeria Ltd., Chairman of Kantin Kwari Market in 2003; Chairman of Kano State Traders Union in 2005; Chairman of Kwari Market Board of Trustees in 2008; Chairman of the National Harmonised Traders Union of Nigeria; and Founder of the Patriotic Elders Network for Peace and Justice in Nigeria.
His life of service earned him over 150 awards locally and internationally, including honorary doctorate degrees in 1998 and 2008, the Best Farmer’s Award in 1995, the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) in 2007, and his recognition as a United Nations Ambassador of Peace in 2013.
Dr Bature Abdulaziz was not only a successful entrepreneur but also a community leader, youth advocate, and a passionate believer in peace, justice, and national unity. He was a patriotic Nigerian who devoted his life to the progress of his people and his fatherland.
In recognition of his immense contributions, I urged the Senate to observe a one-minute silence in his honour, so that present and future generations of Nigerians may emulate his exemplary life of service.
On behalf of the 10th Senate, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, extended heartfelt condolences to the family of late Dr Bature Abdulaziz as well as the people and Government of Kano State.
May Almighty Allah grant him eternal rest and reward his good deeds with Aljannatul Firdaus.
Ameen.

@barauijibrin "Aww, touched 😊! Sani Haruna Yankamaye Organisation visited, reaffirming loyalty and support 🙏. Prayed for the departed leaders, Alhaji Haruna and Tijjani Yankamaye - may they rest in peace 🙏. Proud of the youth's direction and purpose 💪 #YouthEmpowerment #CommunityFirst"
English

A moment ago, I received some of my constituents under the Sani Haruna Yankamaye Organisation, comprising vibrant elders and youths from Tsanyawa and Ghari Local Government Areas of Kano North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Abuja.
Their visit deeply touched me. They came to reaffirm their loyalty, support, and confidence in our shared political journey. As such, during the visit, we took time to pray for late Alhaji Haruna Yankamaye and Alhaji Tijjani Yankamaye, who were my strong supporters, loyalists and partners in progress. May Allah grant them Aljannatul Firdaus.
I was particularly proud to hear the young leaders speak with clarity, direction and purpose. This is precisely the kind of youth engagement we want to see: young people guided by their elders, united by shared values, and committed to service.
Alhaji Sani Haruna Yankamaye has truly inherited his father’s legacy. I'm proud of him, Insha Allah, he will go far in life.
Let me reiterate this: my lifelong mission remains to see our youths grow into responsible, prosperous, and valuable members of our society. That is why I will continue to support initiatives that uplift communities, strengthen unity, and secure a better future for our people.
I sincerely thank the organisation for their prayers, solidarity, and assurance of support. Together, by the grace of Allah, we will continue to serve with sincerity, fairness and dedication.

Official Reception of Gov Kefas to the APC
From Kaduna, I went to Jalingo, the Taraba State Capital, to represent the President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, at the official reception of Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, into the largest political party in Africa, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Filled to the brim, the Jolly Nyame Stadium at Jalingo, the Taraba State Capital, hosted dignitaries, with the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, represented by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON.
The multitude of people who thronged to the venue from across the state and beyond was a testament to the fact that the people of the state are solidly behind the governor. This underscored the massive ovation that trailed my chanting of Nigeria, and they said Tinubu, and when I said Taraba, they said Sai Kefas.
On behalf of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and indeed, on behalf of the entire National Assembly, I congratulate our dear brother and his team, as well as the entire people of Taraba State, for joining the people's party.
The decision to join the APC is a demonstration of the governor's zeal and his willingness to bring prosperity to Taraba State. This is the hallmark of governance, bringing prosperity to the people.
Welcome To APC, Governor Kefas. Welcome to APC, Taraba State.
God bless Taraba State, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

@CustomsNG "Major win for Customs and NDLEA! 🙌👮♂️ 347.5kg of Canadian Loud intercepted at Apapa Port, hidden in a Toyota Sienna. Zero tolerance for drug trafficking! 🚫💪"
English

Customs, NDLEA Thwart Major Drug Smuggling Plot at Apapa Port
Officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command, in a joint operation with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have thwarted a major drug smuggling plot at Apapa Port with the interception of 347.5 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis.
In a press statement released on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs, Isah Sulaiman, the illicit drugs were said to have been hidden inside an imported Toyota Sienna vehicle and intercepted barely 24 hours after the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, received a World Customs Organisation (WCO) Certificate of Merit.
Sulaiman disclosed that the cannabis was packed in 13 bags concealed within one of four vehicles contained in a single import consignment. A comprehensive weighing exercise revealed that ten of the bags weighed 25kg each, one bag weighed 29kg, while the remaining two weighed 34.5kg and 34kg respectively, bringing the total weight of the seizure to 347.5kg.
Reacting to the interception, Comptroller Oshoba reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance stance against drug trafficking and other illicit activities at the nation’s premier seaport.
“Any attempt by criminal elements to traffic prohibited items through Apapa Port will be detected and thwarted. We remain vigilant and resolute in the discharge of our duty to protect our society and national security,” he said.
He noted that the latest seizure marks the fourth significant joint drug interception recorded by the NCS and NDLEA at Apapa Port in less than two months, a development he said reflects intensified enforcement, intelligence-driven operations and unwavering inter-agency cooperation.
According to him, the success of the operation underscores the effectiveness of the strategic collaboration championed by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, which prioritises intelligence sharing and joint efforts among security agencies operating within Nigeria’s maritime sector.
He further disclosed that the forthcoming deployment of a high-capacity drive-through scanner capable of screening up to 200 containers per hour would significantly enhance technology-driven cargo examination and further disrupt smuggling activities at the port.
In line with established protocols, the seized 347.5kg of Canadian Loud has been formally handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution of suspects linked to the consignment.
The interception adds to recent recognitions received by Comptroller Oshoba and the NDLEA Apapa Special Area Commander, Mohammed Tukur, who were both awarded the WCO Certificate of Merit on Monday, 26 January 2026, in Abuja, as part of activities marking the International Customs Day celebrations. It also aligns with the 2026 International Customs Day theme, “Customs Protecting Society Through Vigilance and Commitment.”

Earlier today in Kaduna, I attended the wedding fatiha of Nadiya Abba Dasuki, daughter of Abba Dasuki, the Durbin Sokoto, and Baffa Salihi Abdullahi, which was held at the historic Sultan Bello Jumma’a Mosque.
I stood in as the bride’s wali (guardian) and formally gave Nadiya out in marriage to the groom’s family. Acting as wakil (representative) on behalf of the groom was Alhaji Bashir Mohammed Dalhatu, the Wazirin Dutse.
The ceremony was graced by family members, religious leaders, and dignitaries from across the country. Among those in attendance were the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani; former Vice President, Namadi Sambo; Minister, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi; Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah; former NSA, Sambo Dasuki; the National Leader of JIBWIS, Sheikh Bala Lau; Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, alongside other senior government officials, respected elders, traditional title holders, business leaders, and religious scholars.
At the same venue, I also attended a separate wedding fatiha involving the family of Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah, marking the marriage of his nephew, Ishaq Saidu Wasagu, son of the late Sarkin Wasagu, Muhammad Tanko, to Habiba Aliyu Datsama (Ummi), daughter of DCM Aliyu Bawa Datsama, fsi.
I pray that Almighty Allah blesses both marriages, grants the couples harmony and understanding, and makes their homes sources of peace, stability, and enduring blessings.
