@Gizhiibide That was admittedly the same for me, but then I submerged myself in the art of the sound and found such appreciation for its emotion and atmosphere. Now I even love what I once did not, I.e. bands like Hulder and Lamp of Murmuur and their aesthetics.

@Chempyres Yeah I hated black metal for a long time. Corpse paint, gauntlets and all that stuff just seemed to cheesy. Eventually I figured there was a large portion of metal i neglected for years and glad I gave it a real chance. Glad I did.

Genuinely amazed in how my musical journey has gone sometimes. 8 years ago I thought I could never like black metal, I was simply just turned off by it. 5 years ago, I began to appreciate it in certain sounds/bands and styles. Now it is by far one of my favorite metal genres.

@TheRedDeath30 It was a mix of the Satanist and I Loved You At Your Darkest that subtly started to turn me, then a lot of the atmospheric bands like Alcest, Numenorean, and Wolves in the Throne Room that truly started to turn me over. Darkthrone especially now has one of my favorite discogs.

@Chempyres Very similar. I knew the big bands ams was familiar w Darkthrone and Immortal etc. It was really a combo of Behemoth and bands like Skeletonwitch thay got me close enough to make "the leap"
