🌊 A major step for ocean governance and multilateralism 🇺🇳 On Jan 17, 2026, the BBNJ Agreement entered into force. China has offered to host its secretariat in Xiamen. 📍 At the BBNJ secretariat preparatory meeting (March 25, UNHQ, New York), China was the first to present its bid. 🎙 FM Wang Yi (video address): “The entry into force of the BBNJ Agreement is a victory for multilateralism. China’s bid to host the secretariat in Xiamen reflects the sense of duty of a major developing country.” 🗣 Vice FM Hua Chunying outlined our strengths from three angles: ✅ Why China ✅ Why Xiamen ✅ What China can offer Many delegations voiced support for China at the meeting, and China responded to questions from various delegations. 🤝 China's bid is concrete, practical, and open. We look forward to working with all parties, including Trinidad and Tobago, to advance full and effective implementation of the Agreement and help build a more just and equitable global ocean governance system.
