@darkdefective @offmodescarab That was at the franchises peak of popularity when every movie was building on an overarching narrative that was mostly lost post endgame it’s why most of those same characters, antman, capt marvel did worse after endgame.

@darkdefective @offmodescarab Yes but to the broader audience who come to movies later not the core fanbase at day one, superman is more popular to the general audience he has more successful movies, comics, cartoons, this was the first f4 thing that wasn’t a complete flop.

@Cherry80949533 @offmodescarab I spoke about this before and I don’t think that’s quite honest. It’s still part of the biggest franchise in cinematic history.

@Ringerfann @ButchBoi5 @bigmonkeong The comparisons started before release and no one thought the A-list factor was helping Superman then. And evidently both movies opened the same globally. This retrospective “well he’s Superman” take is made just to rid the movie of its credit.

@darkdefective @offmodescarab Superman is one of the most iconic characters vs a lesser known comic brand that’s never been successful in the theatre it’s honestly more impressive f4 was close.

@offmodescarab Tbf the movies opened the same box office wise, so on that note it’s kinda crazy that Superman ended up eclipsing it. In a vacuum I wouldn’t be surprised but last summer it was supposed to be an equal match up.

@offmodescarab F4 still did well compared to its franchises previous entries but yeah it wasn’t gonna beat superman.

@Zazeronofshadow tbh everything bad about Superman mythos including Byrne can be traced back to the reeve movies

Why couldn't the west produce a cartoon movie like this after so many decades? "due durr slave labor" doesn't fucking cut it.
Egil Hellá@93MANIAC

@53gaDr3amca5t Patlabor 2 from 1993 did a freaking amazing of showing people having gotten used to living in what is pretty much a police state

@donvitosballchz @gabby_calleja @penpen_iii Exactly what I'm saying. There is nothing wrong with it I obviously love sailormoon/astroboy and the list goes on I'm just sayign there is some aesthetics from back then that we don't get much of right now.
