The House has passed the National Drug and Health Products Authority Bill, 2025 at Bills Third Reading. The new law when assented to will establish the National Drug and Health Products Authority as the central body responsible for the regulation, control, and supervision of the manufacture, importation, exportation, distribution, and use of drugs and health products in Uganda. It will also expand the regulatory mandate of the authority to cover a wider range of health products, including medical devices, cosmetic products, public health products, nutritional supplements, diagnostics, biologicals and vaccines. #PlenaryUg

Why? The threat is real. Africa has seen a 63% rise in zoonotic outbreaks in the last decade, with Ebola & other viral haemorrhagic fevers making up nearly 70%. This program is training African scientists to predict, prevent, & respond to the next outbreak before it spirals. 2/4

First filovirus outbreak in Ethiopia. Changing times indeed. Commendable work detecting, godspeed for a solid response.
Dr Jean Kaseya@Dr_JeanKaseya

#Ethiopia has confirmed that the suspected outbreak in the Southern Region is Marburg virus disease, with at least nine people infected. I commend the rapid action and transparency of Ethiopia’s @FMoHealth and the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (@EPHIEthiopia). @AfricaCDC’s in-country team continues to work closely with national authorities, providing technical support and closely monitoring the situation. We stand with Ethiopia to contain this outbreak quickly and protect communities.
