@wtflanksteak I always find it interesting when someone from a country that has historically had around 5% immigration, and the rest of the population all look, act, think, and worship the same, makes a blanket statement about America not doing X, Y or Z.

I realized how absurd the Dominican Republic/Haiti comparison was when I realized that, like Puerto Ricans and Cubans, Dominicans are of >50% Spanish ancestry. It's not even a vaguely similar society.
Makes way more sense to contrast Haiti with Jamaica or Barbados.

Any country is doing better than Haiti, that’s a low bar, Jamaica GDP per capita is $7,000 compares to DR’s $13,500 even though DR has 3 time the pop. of Jamaica.

Both are class related.
Black Americans traveling abroad are of means and likely higher class than Africans in Europe. Most Africans in Europe are poor(er).
Black Africans in America are typically the educated and of higher class… than the typical African American here..
So the dichotomy is really class-influenced

At age 10 the German government splits public school students into 2 groups: the college-bound group and the trades-bound group. The two groups go to separate schools. The students in the college group come from richer families

@EKimboslice Spanish has always been an integral part of US culture (even tho many conservstives don't acknowledge that). Someone from Italy can get by in Switzerland without learning German or French (since Italian is an official language in Switzerland).

No actually it’s a revelation to how Hispanic people especially in NY can get away without having to assimilate language wise while Africans, West Indians etc have to in order to survive. A Dominican can live in New York for damn near a decade and still only know minimal English.

It's very weird when people insist on calling Iran a theocracy, but refuse to do the same for the United Kingdom, where the King is the head of the state religion, and where the state religion is granted voting seats in the House of Lords. By definition it is literally theocracy.
