Last week was the final run of creative workshops at the Springbank Pavilion programme this year with our partners @newcastle_nhs , @gemartsuk , @chillistudios and @curious_arts. For the rest of 2023, we’re taking a pause, but hatching plans for returning early 2024...

After a shout out to support a little boy with a bike. A little boy called Alex wanted to donate his. So today we had one very happy little boy when he came to collect the bike Alex had donated. What a difference this will make especially as the journey to school is 30mins walk.

Can I recommend a visit to the annual exhibition from @ChilliStudios if you're passing the @VaneGallery in Commercial Union House on Pilgrim Street, #Newcastle ? Not only is there some really good art on display... 1/5

...but it gives touching insight into lives that are tricky at the best of times and were made trickier by Covid-19 - and underlines the point that art is not just decorative, a nice little add-on, but a sustaining force, even a life-saver for some. 2/5

"My art kept me sane," says the grieving daughter whose mother died in a care home. "Art has given me self-esteem and self-worth," says another exhibitor. But these are the captions. The work on display speaks volumes too, expressing what words often can't. 3/5

Deborah Buchan's ominous CrowVid, Tasmin Armel Duggan's taboo-busting facemasks, Michael Crew's Zoom Art & Carole Ann Hall's Pandemic Puppet are just some of the lockdown creations that capture these exceptional times with clarity and a dash of restorative wit & humour. 4/5

Chilli Studios, set up in 2004, aims to improve mental health through creativity, as you'll see here chillistudios.co.uk But this exhibition by people for whom 'normal' is a loaded word should make anyone feel much better. VANE opens Wed to Sat, 12-5pm. Entry is free. 5/5
