A lot of people think a close under the $SPY 200MA today is a sign to exit all longs. Remember moving averages often get closed under for 1/2 days as a fake out and THEN the bounce happens. Happened with the 50MA the entire way up this summer and fall many times. Be careful…

Choose your fighter 200DMA Edition: SMA 200 we closed under. EMA 200 we closed above. I'm inclined to favor the EMA this time due to the positive oil news as well as the VIX. The VIX closed back under the 10DMA after spending the morning above and closing the last 2 days under. Before you come at me about VIX TA, the front month VIX futures which ARE TRADED and you can do TA on had the same pattern of closures under the 10DMA. Additionally the VIX closed yesterday +12.16% which means there is an 85% probability of an up day on SPY within the next 2 trading sessions and today ended down which leave tomorrow. Tomorrow will probably see typical OpEx shenanigans and with max pain for tomorrow's expiration at 677 I would expect us to get pretty close unless something substantial happens overnight to spook markets.

🚨There is a massive divergence happening with $SPX making lower lows today while $VIX $VX and $VVIX are nowhere near their March 9th levels. If markets were going to crash through their 200 day moving averages and collapse, vol would be bid right now and it’s red today. There may just be a bottom signal in there…

@MichaelPBento Your thoughts on the VIX being down for the day yet the indices aren’t rallying like normal? Vanna fuel depleted? Puts closed which is dropping put skew?

FYI yesterday SPY got a DeMark 13 count buy signal on the daily, and the VIX is putting out a topping candle so far today and not making a new high while SPY makes a new low. Oil is also somewhat subdued today. Don't make the mistake of being a late bear. While I think the bear trend stays intact I see all the ingredients for a quick sharp rip to 668. If that shakes out enough late bears it could extend to 671. As long as we close today above where we opened I will go into some April calls (separate from my scalp plan). Don't fall for the trap today.

This is the CNBC clip today where Tom Lee says he sees $SPX hitting 7,300 in March. Yes +7.7% rise in 15 trading days. He then says a -20% bear market may show itself later this year.

@MichaelPBento $VIX just fell off a cliff since market open and the indices are selling off. The vanna tank is feeling empty and all these mechanical vanna rallies fueled by dropping volatility may not be able to prop up the market much longer.

Keep in perspective just how large a proportion of the gamma out there is tomorrow’s expiration. With 660 being such a big level do not count on it being lost so easily before 4pm Friday.

Put skew is at the low end of a 10 month channel. The falling $VIX may provide some vanna fuel for a mechanical rally but it won’t be nearly as powerful as before (when the put skew was significantly elevated). $SKEW $QQQ $SPY $DJI $IWM @JP_Money_95630 @MichaelPBento
