best known for its breakout AI code editor — is building a general-purpose AI agent codenamed "Sand" to go head-to-head with Anthropic's Claude Cowork. Targeted at non-developers, Sand will autonomously handle daily office tasks like emails and documents, marking Cursor's pivot from developer tools into the broader AI agent space. The product has not yet been publicly unveiled. Does the arrival of tool-native players mean the AI agent race is shifting from "parameter wars" to real-world user experience?

@rezoundous Classic catch-22 for Anthropic. They want to phase out Fable, but there’s simply no viable alternative in the near term. They’re stuck with it for now.

Anthropic doesn't want Fable to stay, but can't afford to do otherwise, at least in the short term.

Chinese EV maker Li Auto has unveiled its proprietary large model Mach-Mind-4-Flash. What’s really interesting is that as an automaker, it didn’t focus its AI research on autonomous driving at all, leaving everyone curious about its real-world application scenarios.

Xiaomi just released its MiMo model with new DFlash tech, and it’s an incredibly practical upgrade. huggingface.co/XiaomiMiMo/MiM… DFlash parallel speculative decoding stands out the most. Instead of generating text word by word, it creates blocks of tokens at once for batch verification, greatly speeding up inference. Built on MoE with lightweight quantization only for expert layers, it barely loses math, coding and reasoning capabilities. It achieves ultra-fast generation on regular GPUs and slashes deployment costs — a fantastic balance of performance and cost efficiency.

Imagine a fable 5 quality model that’s 3-4x less expensive in less than 6 months. And an Opus 4.8 grade model that can run on a local device in less than 12 months. Greater than 50% chance that these events will happen. Worth keeping in mind when you make predictions about the future.

WeChat’s WeLM team has extended Hidden Decoding to cutting-edge MoE models, unveiling WeLM-HD4-80B and WeLM-HD4-617B — unlocking a new scaling path for large language models. The common wisdom says LLMs only get smarter by stacking more parameters and more training data. This team takes a different route: no changes to the core Transformer architecture, just a tweak at the input layer. A single token is unfolded into 4 parallel "internal reasoning streams". The first streams run implicit multi-step computation inside the model — like working through a problem in your head — while the final stream generates the next-token prediction. No extra CoT tokens, no longer outputs, just deeper internal reasoning. Under the same base SFT setup, both models comprehensively outperform their matching baselines across GPQA, math, physics, coding and other benchmarks. In short:,LLM scaling isn’t just about parameter size. It can also happen in the internal computation path of every token. @Weixin_WeChat @LLM

Exclusive via The Information: China is set to allow top domestic AI firms — including Alibaba, ByteDance and DeepSeek — to purchase limited quantities of NVIDIA H200 chips. Total approved volume is said to be less than 200,000 units, under half of the companies’ initial applications earlier this year. The chips will be restricted solely to model training using public datasets. For inference workloads, Chinese domestic chips will continue to take priority. The US already cleared H200 export licenses for China back in December. Beijing had held off on approving the purchases until now, citing industrial protection and security concerns. The policy shift is driven by a deepening AI compute crunch in China, paired with a US crackdown on chip smuggling routes through Southeast Asia. This is a pragmatic easing amid urgent demand, not a full liberalization. The boundary remains clear: imported chips fill training gaps, domestic chips safeguard inference. Core bottom lines on industrial self-sufficiency and data security stay fully intact.

I have also heard some of this independently, and believe the following to be true. GPT-6 is the next release from OpenAI. It's their true answer to Mythos, and it will arrive much sooner than people expect. Model release cadence has been speeding up for a while now. It's possible that GPT-6 even arrives within the next four weeks. When I say 'arrive', however, it may not mean a general release, because if the last couple of months are any indication, GPT-6 will almost certainly be held back by the government, at least initially. It's a new, much larger pretrain as leo says. Mythos changed everything. Everyone is going big. Including Elon who has a 10T Grok in training. Both OpenAI and Anthropic see capabilities increasing rapidly, with advancement continuing on a new trajectory over the rest of this year and beyond. Both labs are very confident in what they have internally and see nothing above us but air. No ceiling.

@tetsuoai with all the focus on coding and Cursor data, do you think its real-world developer workflow performance will actually live up to that “Opus-level” claim, or will it mostly edge out on benchmarks?🤔

Grok 4.5 goes public tomorrow. Here’s everything that’s known. The model runs on V9, xAI’s new 1.5 trillion parameter foundation, roughly three times the size of the v8-small architecture behind Grok 4.3. It’s the largest model the company has shipped, trained on Blackwell GPUs at the Colossus cluster in Memphis. Coding is the clear focus. Cursor’s developer data was added in supplemental training, and reinforcement learning has been improving the model daily alongside the Grok Build harness. The next foundation model already in training will have Cursor data included from the start of pre-training. Elon calls it Opus-level, and says it’s faster, more token-efficient, and cheaper. It’s been in private beta at SpaceX and Tesla since June 28, with early internal evals reportedly at or above that mark. Public benchmarks land once the model does. This is the first flagship under SpaceXAI since the merger, and the plan is a from-scratch foundation model shipping every month through the end of 2026. Tomorrow we get to use it!

@0xSero NVIDIA built their entire OpenCodeReasoning lineup on Qwen.Locking them out will forces NVIDIA to rebuild everything from scratch, wastes billions in redundant R&D, But to me, this reads more like a direct response to US AI restrictions.

Losing access to Chinese Open Weight models would put tremendous pressure on Nvidia's open source team. Even Nvidia's used Chinese Open Weight models for their own developments. Why go down this road? Isn't the world already closed enough as it is? righttointelligence.org

CHINA CONSIDERS RESTRICTING OVERSEAS ACCESS TO CUTTING-EDGE AI MODELS China’s Ministry of Commerce has led meetings over the past month with major AI companies, including Alibaba, ByteDance, and Z.ai, to discuss measures that would restrict overseas access to cutting-edge AI models, including models that have not yet been released. The discussions reportedly include not only closed-source models but also open-weight models. However, the scope of application is still under debate, and the rules may ultimately apply only to future frontier models. Officials have also discussed designating the leakage or theft of proprietary AI technologies as a national security crime, with stronger penalties, as well as restricting the types of foreign capital that can invest in Chinese AI startups. The backdrop is the U.S. move to strengthen export controls on AI models, along with national security concerns over cutting-edge models that could possess advanced cyberattack capabilities. Chinese authorities are reportedly concerned that advanced U.S. cybersecurity AI models could be used to exploit vulnerabilities in Chinese software. Since the beginning of this year, China has continued to tighten measures to prevent AI technology from being transferred overseas. Authorities have investigated whether Chinese AI startups that relocated abroad violated export control laws, while also strengthening oversight of overseas transactions involving Chinese investors, technology, data, and national security concerns. Future regulations could take the form of a tiered framework based on technological capability. Basic open-source AI models may be managed through a filing system, high-performance models may be subject to security reviews, and the most sensitive frontier models may be banned from public release or restricted to use within China.
