That added command has allowed his elite stuff to play even better, and this matchup against Colorado sets up extremely well for strikeouts. While Sheehan only recorded 4 strikeouts against the Colorado Rockies earlier this season, that game came at Coors Field where generating strikeouts is significantly more difficult because breaking pitches do not move as sharply in the altitude. This matchup being back at home is a major difference and should allow Sheehan’s full arsenal to play much more effectively. Workload should also be there for him. His outs line is sitting at 17.5, which projects him to pitch deep enough into the game to have plenty of opportunities to rack up strikeouts. The Rockies lineup continues to be one of the better strikeout matchups in baseball as well. Seven projected Colorado starters own strikeout rates of 21% or higher against right-handed pitching, giving Sheehan multiple hitters he can attack throughout the lineup.
