The new GMC Order is undergoing consultation. The GMC is seeking to remove the speciality register and decide by themselves who should be issued a CCT. This right is currently protected in law. This is the last hurdle before the GMC will be able to issue CCTs to PAs.

GMC going wild with the specialty register would be a disaster for doctors and patients. ACT NOW. You can’t CCT and flee if your certificate isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. (Below: me doing a Cassandra trying to warn BMA reps about this fiasco-in-waiting)

The expectations of the resident doctors' committee are "beyond reasonable and realistic", says Health Secretary Wes Streeting. It's after the British Medical Association announced a six-day resident doctors' strike in England. trib.al/B4XkL0c 📺 Sky 501 and YouTube

Resident doctors have been left with no choice but to strike. Weeks of negotiations with the Government have failed to deliver enough progress on pay, with the goalposts being moved at the last minute. We have called six days of industrial action to make the Government listen, stop the game playing, and come back with an offer that delivers fairly on both jobs and pay.

Dr Kartik Goyal explains how NHS England’s drive to save money in Cheshire and Merseyside is coming at the cost of patient safety. Doctors are “overwhelmed” and staff morale is at an all-time low, with many left to cover unmanageable patient numbers with staffing cover that does not meet required safe levels. We want to see deficit-support funding for Cheshire and Merseyside immediately restored to ensure we can provide safe and effective patient care.

Is anyone surprised that senior healthcare journalists and trust administrators are spending their time addressing the outrage of... *checks notes*... a random man on twitter not having a CD drive.
Alastair McLellan@HSJEditor

A senior @uclh sources get in touch to tell me that the trust's admin team mistakenly thought @adamboxer1 had requested his scan on a CD-ROM

Now all it needs is @wesstreeting to actually COMMENCE it. So when is he going to do that? Why didn't he make it automatic and immediate as he could have done, but voted against??? @Xeon4f145d96s1 They were either paid correctly for the role they accepted, and paid on a 2002 contract or they chose to accept terms that undercut the UK domestic medical workforce. Both can’t be true.

Used you as cheap labour? Firstly, no one forced you to accept a contract you didn’t want to. Secondly, the remuneration offered was likely far better than offered in your home country. Thirdly, you were paid the same as British graduate counterparts for the same job…
@

@DHSCgovuk After using us as cheap labour, the UK is now throwing us away like used tissues once the job is done. And they present this injustice as if it were good news. The NHS is taking all the effort and work we have given and throwing it in the bin. Shame on you.

Nothing to see here, just someone complaining about an underfunded public healthcare system that’s been chronically starved of investments and understaffed. Care to explain @wesstreeting

With thousands of applicants turned down from CT1 Anaesthetic interviews due to interview capacity, and 100 few posts this year, we really have to ask ourselves why do we need PAA (AA). There is not a shortage of doctors, there’s a shortage of training numbers

@Conservatives We’re happy you’re planning to fix the mess. But don’t think we’re dumb, it was the Tories that introduced Plan 2, it was under the Tories tuition fees trebled & maintenance loans were introduced. It was under the latter part of the Tory gov when interest rates peaked above 7%+

From £84,000 to £110,000. This is the shocking reality of the student loan debt trap. We’re the only Party with a plan to end it and save graduates like Max £10,000s.

Even locally if funding is available then why are trusts training PAA, and not post FY2s on a locally employed job similar to the LED CSTs and IMTs that trusts have started to bring in?
Luke Mordecai@Shr_Nottingham

From the recent RCoA statement on PAA’s 👇 IMHO there is zero justification for expansion of the Anaesthetic Assistant role It fails to make any economic sense when used safely & funds should be better spent rectifying the short fall of actual anaesthetists
