8/ This is not hypothetical. The GMC already regulates PAs. It will approve PA postgraduate training under Article 26. Article 28 then allows CCTs for anyone completing Article 26 approved training. Join the dots.

The draft GMC Order 2026 consultation just dropped. Buried in it is a fundamental change to who can be awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).

I know there are many issues at present but this is the single largest threat to medicine within the UK.
@gmcuk have time and again shown that they cannot be trusted. By removing the safeguards provided by Royal Colleges we will be throwing patients to the wolves.

2) The umbrella term is only within GMP when describing all of the three professions collectively.

(1) scope of practice is a matter for individual PAs / AAs, their supervisors / employers & the Royal Colleges (NOT a the GMC); &
(2) an umbrella label ‘medical professionals can lawfully apply to doctors, PAs and AAs

However in para64, the Judges have made clear that Associates shouldn’t describe themselves as medical professionals unless they state clearly the strict limits of their role (eg work under supervision)

“Although nurse-physician substitution may result in better outcomes in certain cases, the evidence is uncertain.”
Leaving out the uncertainty materially changes the meaning.

@parthaskar I did read it - which is why I shared it (knowing it would get coverage elsewhere). One day I am going to write an editoiral about why Drs (at least the ones on here) assume bad motives from anyone who even discussses this issues. It's very tedious.
