Me: entering Japanese cat café. employee stops me immediately. Employee: One rule. Me: Okay. Employee: Orange cat bites people from France. Me: I’m not French. Employee: Good. I sit down, cats everywhere, peaceful, adorable, therapeutic. then gigantic orange cat jumps onto table, built like retired wrestler. Cat staring at me aggressively. Employee watching nervously from distance. Me: I thought he only hated French people. Employee: He improvises. cat slowly pushes my drink off table while maintaining eye contact. Me: THIS IS TARGETED. small child nearby points at cat. Child: That one evil. Employee: No no, He just passionate. cat suddenly climbs onto my lap, starts purring violently. Me: …wait he likes me? Employee shocked. Employee: Impossible. another worker comes over, then another, entire staff now observing me like chosen prophet. Manager arrives. Manager: He has never trusted customer before. Me: What does that mean. Manager bows slightly. Manager: You must take him. Me: TAKE HIM WHERE. orange cat already asleep on me. Employee quietly bringing adoption papers. Me: I CAME HERE FOR COFFEE.

@Wilson__Valdez @ASFleischman And wouldn’t have been a good start if Hunter had the book thrown at him so we could cleanly demand the book thrown at the entire Trump crime team. Policing your own is always good for policing the others

One of the things that negated the Trump corruption charges before the election was that every manosphere podcast, Joe Rogan especially, just obsessively talked about Nancy Pelosi and Hunter Biden. Anytime I tried to talk to my friend who listen to all that garbage (and voted for Trump), it would just be "what about Nancy Pelosi stock portfolio/ Hunter Biden Ukraine job."
Catherine Rampell@crampell

The total value of Trump’s transactions in the first three months of this year—$750 million—is higher than the value of all trades by all 535 members of the House and Senate *combined* in an average year. open.substack.com/pub/thebulwark…

@FarmerCrafted In the US, +30M acres devoted to corn for bio-ethanol, mostly in IA and NE, on excellent land. Roughly a fifth of that is devoted to all forms of US solar infra most of which is on marginal lands. Bio-ethanol program hasn't met any of its original objectives.

@JeremiahDJohns the credit markets were completely frozen as well. And if they didn't figure out a way to unfreeze them, all of the listed problems would've become +10x worse. BTW, Ben Bernanke's PhD was on how FDR bailed out the banks. In this 1 case the banks actually paid the TARP back.

I don't want to blame someone for being young and asking questions, but holy shit the idea that this is even a question. * Unemployment hit 10%. Stayed above 7% for four straight years * 10M people lost their homes * The banking system came close to total, catastrophic failure * We didn't gain back all the lost jobs for six years * Stock market declined by 57% * Global trade declined 10% Comparing right now to then is just...

just hooked up ChatGPT to my personal finances (cards, accounts, etc) it had some incredible recommendations: - stop dining out so much (save $893 a month) - cancel Claude / Grok / Google AI subscriptions ($467 a month) - cut all leisure spend like movies, theme parks, etc (family of 4, that saves us $1,500 a month) - move out of our expensive house, send the wife + kids to live with the grandparents, live by myself in a Waymo full-time (this is the big one, saves $10k+) this gives me much more time to focus on startups and posting memes thanks AI!

Grim post. Today, around 3:00pm while visiting my old school redneck friend and neighbor marking fence post locations, I let Juni the heeler pup out for a few minutes. I called her back in she loaded back up into the truck. We proceeded bullshit for 10-20 minutes. Walking back to the truck she was ass in the air, thought she was digging in the seat. When I got there, she had shit all over and was convulsing/seizing/slobbering. I asked him if he had any poison out. Unfortunately he did have out a fly bait concoction mixed with soda to kill coons, possums, skunks and any other lurkers by. I loaded up, called my vet’s cell followed by three other area vets. No doctors in on Friday, universal. Got to the house, tried agitating, keeping upright, compressions, breathing into her nose. She was stone dead 15 minutes in. Vet returned my call after. It’s an organophosphate poison (nerve agent), atropine is the treatment, I don’t keep that in the kit and wouldn’t have considered it. Took the DR mower out, cleaned up the pet cemetery and buried her. It was a violent and unnecessary death. I’m still in fight mode, walled off, avoiding, sipping through a fifth of Jim Beam. Not adjudicating right now. Mrs crushed, readily judgemental. Jimmy the cat (sparring partner) lost, just a huge dent here. Probably muting this post, shit.

@Devon_Eriksen_ Heidi Klum throws an annual Halloween party where she designs and wears highly designed and articulated costumes (in collab w/ Hollywood design shops, no doubt). She's done this for years. If anyone is a costume 'expert', it's probably Ms. Klum.

This is what I call "The Death of the Reader". Authors write for readers, who aren't authors. Artists paint for non-artists. Musicians play for non-musicians. This keeps fiction, art, and music grounded. But when any group stops creating for an external audience, and starts trying to impress only each other, they create a weird, self-reinforcing feedback loop. This isn't clothing, or even fashion. It's a costume party. They're all trying one-up each other with something weirder and more eye-catching. So when an athlete, of recent and topical celebrity, who isn't a part of their Bored Billionaires' Club, shows up in a dress that's just a dress, of course they are going to mock her. She's just revealed that she didn't get the memo. That she's not an insider. How she looks to the world at large is not the point. This is why 99.999...% of copies of "Infinite Jest" have never been read. This is why John Cage "wrote" four minutes of silence. This is why competitive bodybuilders from the 80s looked like Greek gods, and modern ones look like gargoyle freaks. It's all the Death of the Reader. Hollywood doesn't make movies for you now. They hate you. They make movies for each other. And then cry about how you didn't buy a ticket, because they think your only role is to pay for their onanistic circle of self indulgence. This game isn't going to stop. It's just going to keep getting weirder until someone's dress malfunctions and catches fire, and the rest of us all have a good laugh.

@Hot_Pepper76 That does not appear to be just any horse. The horse in the photo looks to be a Haflinger, and they can be very smart (my wife and I owned three of them at various times). We went back to AQHA/APHAs because, yes, you want a smart horse, just not one that is too smart.

The Day Lucy Outsmarted Me I went to the barn today thinking it would be a calm, peaceful visit. Lucy said, "That’s cute." The second she realized I was on foot, no lead rope, no treats, she gave me that look every animal owner knows. The "nice try, human" look. Then she took off like a little rocket, attitude in full swing, fully aware I had absolutely no chance of catching her. I’m convinced she was laughing. People say cats are independent, but horses are in a category of their own. They’ll love you, follow you, nuzzle you, then suddenly decide today is not the day they’re participating. Lucy has feelings, moods, opinions, and very strong thoughts about me showing up empty-handed. Eventually she let me walk up to her, probably because she got bored of winning. I told her she’s still my favorite little pistol. Moral of the story, never underestimate a horse who knows she’s faster than you.

The place where my grandma lives in Boca Raton is not a retirement community but an apartment complex but still has an older crowd (because duh, Boca Raton...). They recently switched all their laundry machines in the buildings to have to pay on an app (most don't have laundry in their units so there's a laundry area per floor). None of the old people can figure out how to do laundry now, and the other half don't even have smartphones. I don't know who thinks this shit is a good idea to throw in everyone's faces when not everyone uses technology at the same level, or even can.

@Outspoken_Sam Modular or manufactured homes come in all price points. As long as you stay with the ones that are mid-upper to upper level, you'll have many good options available. I considered one for my parcel, and I have a neighbor who have a really put together a really nice one.

Question: Do you judge people for living in a trailer? 😅 My husband and I are thinking about buying some land and putting a double wide on it. But I'm not gonna lie... the stigma of living in a trailer is definitely in the back of my mind. I don't tend to care what people think for the most part, but this is something that gets me.

@blob1972453 @esjesjesj Because there are vast areas on earth where people live w/o clean water or sanitary sewerage and are exposed to multiple parasites as a result. More than 400M+ hookworm human infections every year, Mebendazole is the treatment, also works on pinworms, whipworms, roundworms.

@theblessedsalt This is my mailbox in the ditch after a truck/trailer combo veered across the fogline in the early AM. No extra concrete needed, as this unit was a steel-clad, heavy beast that had withstood multiple prior assaults. Whoever hit it, heard something loud.

This post is an excellent litmus test for understanding of just war theory. Despite the fact that I can see how effective this would be, I must oppose it because the damage it would do to my enemy (who bashes in my mailbox) would far outweigh the good of saving my mailbox. Its disproportionality is opposed by our duty in charity (and even justice) to watch out even for the good of our enemies. (Yes, by the way, I have had my mailbox bashed in by random vandals.)

@FalconryFinance I live in an unincorporated rural area adjacent to a large tract of multi-use state owned land. My neighbors will often ride their ORVs out their garage to access the local trails. As long as it's daylight w/ good visibility, no warden or deputy would give it a second glance.
