“Iceland cake” on #GBBO incorrectly shows sedimentary strata. Iceland is almost entirely igneous (and icing boulders are presumably granite). No star baker for you sir. @chriscaselldine @hignellandrew

Can you imagine that? 😱
On #Sonnblick, at 3,169 m asl, there was not a single freezing temp during the whole month of August!
Aug. 2024 is 1st month without frost since measurements began in 1886! 🔥
No need to tell you about ice in these conditions 😭

101 degrees Fahrenheit in South Australia, the highest 'wintertime' temperature ever recorded there (crushing the old record by more than three degrees)
Ben Domensino@Ben_Domensino
Oodnadatta's final maximum temperature today was 38.5°C. This is more than 16°C above average for this time of year. It's also the highest winter temperature ever observed in South Australia, obliterating the previous record of 36.5°C from the same site on August 12, 1946.

@doctor_oxford @rcgp It would be nice to see some awareness of what PAs feel as my daughter with Biomed degree trained as a PA immediately started work in Covid hospital and after that has now left medicine because of the stress and lack of respect for her which caused her considerable distress
English

FINALLY the @rcgp has called for a halt on any further recruitment of PAs as doctor substitutes in general practice.
Heartfelt thanks to all frontline & senior staff who’ve fought for standards in medicine & patient safety.
Shame on the leaders who haven’t.

@LeoHickman Great to read Leo and good that you still had people to talk to. I only started with my family after retiring by which time all my father’s generation had died . Hence I have a grandfather who was illegitimate and a black hole in terms of who knew or who my great grandfather was

Update:
It has now been published.
Here's my thread about it...

THREAD🧵 I’ve been a journalist for more than 25yrs But I never thought the deepest investigation I wld ever undertake – lasting 4yrs – wld be into the confusing circumstance of my own father’s birth What I uncovered shocked me …taking me into the archives of Nazi Germany

The Tropical Atlantic has never been this hot before in May.
A severe marine heatwave has developed across much of the Tropical Atlantic and Caribbean, with water temperatures up to 5-7°F above normal in some areas.
Water temperatures in the Caribbean have already exceeded peak hurricane season levels (mid-September). This will have significant implications for marine life and hurricane season.
