Research by @CCLdotORG found teams with high degrees of psychological safety reported higher levels of performance & lower levels of interpersonal conflict. They also found that senior leadership teams reported the greatest differences in their perceived levels of psychological safety: it means that senior teams are the place where creative problem solving is most likely to be squashed & teams fail to collaborate & innovate together to their full potential. They suggest 8 steps for leaders to help create a more psychologically safe workplace: 1. Make psychological safety an explicit priority 2. Facilitate everyone speaking up 3. Establish norms for how failure is handled 4. Create space for new ideas (even wild ones) 5. Embrace productive conflict 6. Pay close attention and look for patterns 7. Make an intentional effort to promote dialogue 8. Celebrate wins ccl.org/articles/leadi…

The mantra "move fast & break things" gets used to encourage disruptive innovation. It's often reckless because it ignores the negative consequences of innovation. Instead, as leaders we can "move fast & fix things", using a radical approach that moves fast, builds trust & accelerates excellence: qaspire.com/move-fast-and-… Blog & sketch by @tnvora, based on the new book by @FrancesFrei & @annemorriss.

I never want to be the kind of "change expert" that goes into a room full of practitioners and tells them what to do, knowing nothing of their existing strengths or without wondering what they can teach me. Thinking like an explorer rather than an expert is not about your role. It's not about your existing level of expertise. Many of the best role model explorers have a very high level of knowledge and expertise. Being an explorer is about acknowledging that other people might know more than you and being open to learning from them always.
Helen Bevan@HelenBevan

Another post about the difference between thinking like an "expert" & an "explorer". An expert starts from a place of knowing a lot about the topic ("expertise"). That leads to conviction about the right thing to do, confirmation & desirability bias & validation of the current way of thinking. An explorer starts from a place of humility (appreciating there is a lot they don't know). This leads to doubt, curiosity & a stronger likelihood of discovery & breakthrough thinking. Graphic adapted from one by @anujmagazine.

We can start culture change at any level in an organisation. However, when senior leaders show the way, and role model positive behaviour, more change is likely to happen, more quickly. The Arbinger Institute has just released a new (free) guide: "The leadership gold standard: A blueprint to culture transformation from the top down". It contains some super tools that anyone can use, not just senior leaders: lnkd.in/eTjt_v4J Via @SmartBrief

What often happens when change is done "for us". Senior people, typically with good intentions, decide what & how the change happens. People don't hate change. We hate the way change is done to or for us. Much better to do change with or by us. Inspired by @cormacrussel @imgflip

Thank you to all who attended, hopefully my presentation and that of my fellow guest speakers has offered insight into the digital inclusion work and projects underway and how you can contribute to minimising the digital divide

Spending per head on healthcare in Australia in 2019 was £4184. In the UK it was £2647. The G7 average was £3523. Bear this in mind next time someone says we have an NHS problem. What we have is a government problem.
