It has been a bit of a tricky affair and a learning process, with a big dollop of imposter syndrome. However, I am happy to say that my two-day painful radic course is coming home (though I’ve never really left) 😛 TEESSIDE, that is, in November. A North East of England gig. All details below. A decent North East contingency, please, if you may – Newcastle, Sunderland, Teesside, Redcar, and surrounding areas. I don't see professional divisions. Wouldn't it be lovely to see an eclectic bunch of health professionals? And in the evening – Parmos at Manjaros!! @thomas_jesson knows Scan the QR code in the image below or visit my website: theradicularclinician.com/in-person-cour…

First contact (MSK) practitioners, or FCPs, have it tough, in my opinion. There are great expectations about what they can do in primary care, and for some, their function has become distorted. This distortion is partly due to pathway limitations, partly because of clinician aspirations, and partly due to the perception of their role as simply 'doing physio.' Often, this results in dissatisfactory outcomes. FCP consultations are short, e.g., 10-20 minutes. For this reason, I don’t think they should attempt to be all things to all people. Here are some Do's and Don'ts as someone working in MSK and as someone who receives referrals from FCPs.

Avascular Necrosis of the Femoral Head (AVNFH) is a disease of the proximal femur and, if untreated, 80% of cases progress to femoral head collapse and secondary arthritis. Early diagnosis is essential and relies on clinicians maintaining a high level of suspicion of the disease in patients with unexplained hip pain, especially in young and active individuals. MRI is the GOLD standard for diagnosis. When it comes to the treatment of early or ‘pre-collapse’ AVNFH, there remains no firm consensus. There is a distinct lack of large, randomized controlled trials, and no level 1 evidence. Full Link sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Well this is fascinating!! Occupational physical activity raises markers of inflammation, while leisure-based physical activity has the opposite effect. Really nicely-written paper, discussing the confounding variables as well as direct results. 👇👇

🚨 #Original Research: the physical activity paradox - could inflammation be a key factor? ⚡️ Do levels of inflammatory markers in the blood change depending on the setting of physical activity - i.e. leisure time or occupational activity? READ HERE ➡️ bit.ly/3puxCIC
