Press Release: Status Update for By-Elections The Commission sincerely lauds people of Ol Kalou Constituency who turned up to vote. Minimal incidents were reported and resolved accordingly. Voting has now closed in a majority of polling stations and counting is underway. In cases where opening delayed due to unforeseen circumstances, time lost is being compensated. Results announced at the polling station are final. As at 3.00p.m. 50.78% of the registered voters in Ol Kalou Constituency had turned out to vote. By-election results will be accessible to the public on the Commission’s results portal: forms.iebc.or.ke Only accredited persons with identification badges are allowed to access the centers and observe the tallying and declaration of results. The Commission firmly condemns all acts of violence, intimidation, or disruption reported in isolated areas during the voting process. Elections are a democratic exercise, and no individual or group has the right to compromise the peace, safety, or integrity of the process. The Commission calls upon all polling officials to discharge their duties with integrity, impartiality, and full adherence to the Code of Conduct. Any official found in breach of the Code or the Election Offences Act will face firm action. We urge the public to rely on official communication from the Commission and to refrain from sharing unverified information that may undermine public confidence in the electoral process. Police Rule Out Ruto Tattoo Motive, Say Rachel Wandeto Killing Linked to Money, a love triangle and Personal Disputes Update: Fresh details are now emerging in the murder investigation of gospel artist Rachel Wandeto, the woman who suffered severe burns after being attacked in Mwiki, Kasarani. A suspect arrested in connection with the killing has been identified as Josiah Njeru Njiri, who is said to have been Wandeto’s regular taxi driver. Police sources quoted in the latest report say investigators are now looking at money as a main motive, with claims that the suspect may have believed Wandeto had received money from places she had recently visited, including State House. The political tattoo angle that initially dominated public discussion is not being treated as the motive. Detectives are also reportedly investigating claims of personal grudges and a possible relationship or love-triangle angle involving the suspect. The suspect was arrested in Kasarani by detectives from the DCI homicide unit, with DCI Director Mohamed Amin confirming that he will be arraigned as police seek custodial orders. Detectives are also pursuing more suspects believed to have participated in the attack. Wandeto was attacked on May 16 near 11th Street, Obama Road in Mwiki, where she was allegedly assaulted, doused with a flammable substance and set ablaze. She later died at Kenyatta National Hospital on May 18 after suffering burns covering about 75 percent of her body. The latest police angle appears to shift the case from the earlier public narrative that the attack was purely linked to her Ruto tattoo, towards a wider investigation involving money, personal links and possible grudges.
