May 15, 1993 - One of the more memorable days in IMS & IndyCar history. A. J. Foyt decided it was time to hang up his helmet. 🏁 The 4 time winner had a record 35 consecutive Indy 500 starts. Anyone who saw part of it, or all of it, was fortunate.

As someone who drives sprint cars and has crashed them i think Austin’s opinion on the subject is very credible and pretty spot on My biggest take away from that portion of the interview tho is the fact that he keeps saying “i might get in trouble for this” Thats the fucking problem with the world today. Theres a bunch of thin skinned people that don’t like being challenged on subjects. And people don’t wana speak up for fear of losing a sponsor, pissing off a series, or stepping on a friend of a friends toes Pride and profits will always hinder progress

Around 2006 Charlie called me one day and asked if he could pay me to learn how to setup race cars. I said “just hop in the truck and go racing with me” We did about 40-50 races in 2007 and it was one of the funnest years of my life looking back. I was just in my 30’s and he was in his 60’s. It was like a father/son going down the road bonding and having fun. I didn’t get to do that with my dad. Charlie taught me alot of valuable lessons that i wasn’t aware of at the time, but i carry them to this day. He told me stories of when he was a kid, college stories, Vietnam stories, the time he got drunk and kicked out of a bowling alley in Rolla Missouri, stealing a deuce and a half and joy riding it in Vietnam. Stories he never told his family and kids, mostly because they never asked. Sometimes we as humans take for granted the things we have in front of us on a daily basis We brought out the best in each other and won some races together that year. He went on over the next several years wrenching race cars and winning races on his own after i moved on I was happy i could help him achieve his dream of racing and wrenching. But i was more happy that i got his friendship, mentorship, and was able to learn his life in a way that not even his family knew him. He was my friend, but he was more like a father to me. Our overnight drives to the next track were always the best and he set the standard for me to understand what it meant to be someone’s friend Years later he called me one day to thank me and i said “well, what else is on ur bucket list?” He said “ive never been to Eldora” September, 2012 i went and picked him up and took him to Eldora. I wish i woulda took more pics of our trip 😢 Just like you said, Charlie was a good man and a good friend! ❤️

@ripjetson9 Only took a few words to know that Charlie was a good man. He spoke to me like I was somebody, and was eager to offer any bit of knowledge he had .

The greatest to ever do it. Incredible to watch what Mr. Newey continues to achieve. Come a long ways since engineering/designing the March 85C for @BobRahal as his first design job in Indycar! Very, very cool. Most successful man (or manufacturer) in history.

Everyone is talking about the AMR26. Hear from the man who designed it. Adrian Newey puts down his pencil to discuss a busy 10 months for the team, the philosophy behind AMR26, and why Team Principal is just a title. Read the UNDERCUT interview: astonmartinf1.com/en-GB/news/fea…

I would tell your son this, priority #1 is to never disappoint the person who paid for your pit pass. “All he paid me was a pitpass” is the wrong attitude. You produce like that person just gave you a million bucks regardless if all you got was a $30 pit pass. Because that pit pass and a good reference is what leads to the next opportunity Rarely will racing pay you what you think you are worth, but i have seen the world because of my ability to work on a race car When i leave for work everyday my neighbor across the street, who retired at 60 from a government job, is mowing his grass. When i get home after work he is out there trimming a bush or leaf blowing the driveway. Prior to that he sat in an office for 30yrs Personally ill take my work stories over his work stories every day of the week 💯😎

@ripjetson9 @maymaggy @cbnationals I was thinking about this exact situation with my son. Says he wants to be a race car mechanic when he grows up.

Jack handled the fuel calculations, not Steve. Jack had some complex way of doing it compared to how everybody else did it. Keep in mind he had taught math at a university level. Had an 18 sec lead & stayed out a lap too long. Threw the win away. This was not the first time.
