I’m sure this is more widespread than just Block.

First time hearing about Player Piano. Crazy how relevant it still is.

This is dark. AI is here to destroy our workforce. They are an enemy to the state imo. Yeah maybe 20-30 years from now we figure it out but it’s going to be an awful 20 years to get there.

There it is: The market is finally starting to react to the surge in treasury yields. Can this market survive with a 5% 10Y Yield?

I don't know why the narrative is "AI isn't going to take your job."
Of course it is.
I'm predicting we'll see at least 4 million layoffs driven by AI over the next 24 months.
In 2022-23, tech companies laid off over 400000 employees. Google cut 12000. Meta slashed 21000. Amazon let go of 27000. Salesforce dropped 8000.
They all called it "efficiency" and Wall Street rewarded them with higher stock prices.
Get ready for round 2...the AI edition.
Companies are discovering that one employee with the right AI tools can do the work of 3-5 people. Microsoft just laid off 7000 employees while simultaneously investing $10B in OpenAI. That's not a coincidence.
When your best performers can use Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, and Midjourney to 5x their output, keeping everyone else becomes a luxury.
We're not quite there yet because the tools dont deliver 100% output, but we're close.
We saw 400,000 layoffs in the ZIRP era layoffs of 2022/2023.
I'm predicting we'll see at least 4 million layoffs driven by AI over the next 24 months.
The pattern will be the same: quiet restructuring, press releases about "streamlining operations," and then stock price jumps.
And beyond the layoffs, hiring will shrink. Why hire when you have agent swarms fulfilling tons of the tasks? The "jobs to be done" are being done.
I'm not saying these people won't find other jobs. They will. And those who become AI power users will be weapons. I think lots of these people end up not working for anyone, and just become solopreneurs/makers themselves.
They'll get a taste of freedom and wonder why they ever worked at a big company anyways. Hopefully they make more money too.
I do wonder if ALL of them will get jobs. It's a wonder. Im not sure.
But, can we stop saying AI isn't going to take your jobs?
It isn't helping anyone.
