Roman Catholics:
What Mass is your go to for Christmas?
Christmas Eve in the early evening?
Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve?
Early Christmas Morning Mass?
Christmas Day Mass?
Last year, I did 3 of them because I wanted to experience 3 of the 4 different Gospel readings!
@taco_talks Hang on you’re saying you can be severed from Christ aka lose salvation. Some Protestants say you can’t lose salvation…
What do you say to them?
@ShadowSkelett@JamesDueck Read Exodus 25:17-20.
Same book and God commands Moses to make golden seats and statues of cherubim on the ark.
Then Joshua bows down to the ark in Joshua 7:6.
@JamesDueck Unless they believe the Bible, then they reject all false doctrines like Romanism.
“Do not make an idol for yourself, whether in the shape of anything in the heavens above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth.”
Exodus 20:4
@JamesDueck This was one of the major turning points for me.
The fact it was actually put together by a council of men at the Westminster Assembly self refutes their argument.
The Westminster Assembly isn’t the Bible the last time I checked
@Geeekaholic@PastorAwes I mean I still have a lot of Protestant friends who genuinely love the Lord, but it’s a dangerous path when you turn the Bible into relativism and turn literal saving statements into symbols
I get Catholics to convert to Christianity almost every week of my life. Even though many young people are becoming Catholic right now, the silver lining is that they're doing so more out of a political statement than a religious conviction. People just want traditional and conservative values, and they think they'll find that in the catholic church. Ironically, the Catholic church has gotten extremely liberal on social issues in the last few decades. I've found that my generation is very receptive to the gospel and once shown from the Bible they are very easy to show the truth of the lies of the Catholic church. Let's go soul winning!
@gregowoc@PastorAwes I don’t understand? You just insulted Catholic Church practice and hit me with verses affirming real presence in the Eucharist, baptism saving us and Holy Spirit appointing the Early Church?
Each of them verses go against evangelical theology?
@Veektor2023@PastorAwes Bowing isn’t worship. Joshua bowed before the ark in Joshua 7:6, was he worshipping the ark?
We have inscriptions from the 3rd and 4th century or prayers to Mary and Peter & Paul.
Official Catholic teaching is that worship (latria) is reserved for God alone.
@gregowoc@PastorAwes Lutherans believe baptism saves, so do Catholics. Baptists and Pentecostals don’t.
Each claim to be inspired by the Holy Spirit to get their answer. Which group is correct and why?
They believe contradicting doctrines and the Holy Spirit can’t be wrong.
@gregowoc@PastorAwes I can't go over all this, appreciate the fruits of the spirit by insulting me though.
Most of this is strawman and verses out of context, and the fact you listed verses and put "interpretation" sums it up. It's all relative without an interpretive authority.
@Veektor2023@PastorAwes That was the point I originally made. A lot of Protestants criticise Catholics saying they're not saved when they're not the final judge, they also believe you can't possibly lose salvation which is a dangerous way to live.
@ChristusKibo@PastorAwes that is pure speculation and idolatry to believe men can know God’s mind. they would need to be equals to know how people are judged.
no man knows the hearts pf men. only God.
funny thing about that. it also throws a wet towel on the RCC obsession with saints.
they believe because their leadership votes on works that they know who is in heaven.
and worse, they pray to and sometimes bow to statues of ‘saints.’
@GaltGiovani@PastorAwes Every denomination says they’re inspired by the Holy Spirit but contradict each other. How do we determine who’s actually right?
@gregowoc@PastorAwes Asssuming the whole Church up to 1500s was wrong is mental to me. Paul describes himself as a Father in 1 Cor. 4:15. Jesus instituted the sacrament of confession. Saints are alive in Heaven, not dead. Mary is an intercessor, not a mediator of salvation. Worship is for God alone.
