@escapefrommelos Try translating "I love skiing under the moon" to Japanese.
It turns into a pun.
English

@escapefrommelos It's super useful for sure!
I don't think it's 100% accurate, but it helps us at least half the way.
It also helps to have a little understanding of the Japanese culture and language.
That way I can predict how something gets translated.
English

the "translate tweet" button is the biggest thing to happen to Western-Japanese relations since anime dubbing and cheap reliable pickup trucks

@Deaver0501 For a moment I thought these were mugshots.
"Have they been arrested by the Oozora police?!"
English

When I say that I respect culture differences, this type of culture is included.
I hope that they gained new comrades from this.

In 1504, the German knight Götz von Berlichingen lost his right hand when a cannon blast forced his sword back into his arm during the War of the Landshut Succession.
Instead of retiring from battle, he replaced it with iron.
But this was not a simple hook or peg. What he received was one of the most sophisticated prosthetic devices of the Renaissance. The iron hand contained individually articulated fingers with multiple joints, small internal springs, and ratchet-style locks that allowed each finger to snap into place.
This design allowed the prosthetic to shift between powerful and delicate grips. It was strong enough to hold a sword in battle and precise enough to hold a quill and write.
More than 500 years later, the device still survives and is preserved at Jagsthausen Castle.

@punisada_ Even your rough sketches are cute!
I hope that you keep having fun even if you don't end up polishing them! 🫶

@OnePunchManDP I can see that One-sensei has gotten better at drawing over the years.
English

@melindiscott @TimothyEveland @PrehensilePeen I like your serious approach of curiosity.
Now instead of just making fun of a probable knockoff, we actually learnt something.
English

@TimothyEveland @PrehensilePeen It must have taken hours and taken incredible skill as well. To get the consistency without any machinery whatsoever is very impressive

I wouldn't trust that fake unriveted aluminum chainmail.
This is what real medieval chainmail looks like.
