@JEChalmers Bad policy is bad politics! Paul Keating… your idol… said this. Well he has a point, at least , on that. Your budget is a sledgehammer to productivity and also a sledgehammer to any delusions of you ever being PM.

Sat down with Mark Kenny and Marija Taflaga on the Democracy Sausage podcast and covered our Budget, reform, and the real meaning of aspiration. This Budget is all about addressing some of the anxieties we’re seeing across the world, and I appreciated the opportunity to chat about it in more depth than usual. If you’d like to have a listen, you can find it here: open.spotify.com/episode/4yVzGw…

@mirandadevine Welfare leviathan alright … the way Dim Jim is driving the economy, we will all need to be tapping NDIS to put food on table and pay for Bowen’s climate crusade 🙈

This is Australia. The consequences of a new welfare leviathan - the National Disability Insurance Scheme - NDIS. The spending is out of control. And pity the kids who genuinely have a disability because there's nothing left.

Australians have no confidence in the Prime Minister or the Government. The GG needs to do her job, place this government into caretaker mode, dissolve the parliament. This mob have done enough damage.

@Jeremy_Morton_ @AlboMP Asking Jim to explain productivity is like asking Anika Wells how to spend the tax dollar prudently 🫪🙈🍾

Treasurer asked to explain productivity impact of tax changes... The fact that NONE of the 23 members of the @AlboMP Gov't Cabinet have ever run a business is blindingly obvious as they stumble over trying to explain the benefits of their tax policy changes. Probably time to be honest & admit this is about budget repair, not intergenerational inequality or fairness between tax on labour & capital. It's a bit like watching John Hewson explaining his proposed tax changes on the price of a birthday cake 🎂 abc.net.au/news/2026-05-2…

The start-up and tech focus is BS - the budget hammers every single business and its employee owners. The incentive to work hard is being destroyed at all businesses in the name of Labor expanding the public service by 25% and paying for a government sector that is the largest share of the overall economy since WWII. It is highly regressive, stealth socialism. It is making once extraordinary Aussies very, very ordinary by global standards. We are rapidly going from world-class to cattle-class. From the Wonder Down Under to Asia’s Ibiza
Sam Kennard@SamKSS

Tech start-ups aren’t special. Every new business is a start-up. None of them should face a punitive tax on realisation of their toil, ideas and sacrifice. The government needs to confront its spending problem.

@cjoye Blokes like you should be shifting off shore … why would you prop up and subsidise this economic stupidity. That’s not a criticism of you … rather I’m questioning Jim’s financial literacy… you wouldn’t let the bloke run a chook raffle 🐔

That's not the viral moment, the shocking moment was when he said "shares have been long undercompensated so we needed to increase CGT on all assets to compensate them." Its like watching the US congressman answering questions 🤡 Absolutely no clue of what he was talking about. news.com.au/national/polit…

Finally both parties are showing their real colours after a decade when they mostly tried to be a slightly more attractive version of the other side, with the Coalition just a little less enthusiastic than Labor for big government, climate action, and mass migration. By committing a future Coalition government to ending bracket creep, taxation by stealth, Taylor has made the next election wealth creation versus wealth redistribution and pitched the Liberals as the party of aspiration versus the party of resentment. Higher taxes on property and heavier taxes on wealth creation are not just broken promises with no redeeming policy feature. They're an assault on the Australian dream that people who strive to get ahead should not be punished for their efforts and that people who 'have a go' should get a 'fair go' from government. @FinancialReview AI gave me a summary of Allegra’s tax white paper and based on that I observe that her tax ideas largely mirror Labors 🤦‍♂️… so yep she should be back peddling… she might get punted given her electorate won’t want a death tax and a complete mauling to small businesses

Redistribute to the political class firstly… and then redistribute as broadly as possible such that most people, have some level of reliance. Raise the dependency ratio
