Bellatrix’s story so far… Bella was a bit grumpy when she arrived, especially around food and feeding time. She was also super affectionate which is always a good sign! However she would growl at herself in the mirror, she would growl at her own food bowls and she would pace angrily before eating while thrashing her tail and even worse, sometimes she wouldn’t eat at all. The food aggression was worrying and I had to dodge a couple of swipes (to say the least) but the food aversion was much more concerning considering she was underweight and heavily pregnant. Food continued to be a trigger even after she gave birth, but thankfully things have calmed down a lot in the past couple of weeks and I haven’t had a peep out of her, she’s now just a very chilled beauty, thankfully. Often food aggression, or food aversion can be caused by food insecurity, so it may be, that having been in a multi-pet household she was having to fight for or protect her food source. Given that she had already had two litters and was very thin, it may have been that her extra nutritional needs weren’t being met during the pregnancies which made her more protective around her bowls. The additional hormone surges will have exacerbated this in a hungry cat and so when her hormones started to rage again and then when the babies arrived, she may have reverted to this learned behaviour? (She was also brush averse, but that’s a whole other story! 😹). So everyone’s gained loads of weight since the meat-eating began, except Draco, who’s still using mommmy milk as his primary source of nutrients! So much so that all of his sisters are now heavier than him! Just checked on the kittens and Tonks has gained another 3g not a huge amount but at least she’s going up a little. I have supplemented her with some KMR and also watched her feed from Bellatrix for a good amount of time, after a lot of fussing and fighting with Ginny. Hoping she’s turned a corner but won’t be happy till she starts gaining properly again.
