We split into focused training tracks – Cinematography led by the duo Denis Onen & Ignatius Bulega, breaking down framing, lighting, camera movement, and how to capture emotion in different shots. Meanwhile, Esunget Cyrus & Eunice Acan took Writers, Directors & Producers through story structure, character development, scene blocking, and turning ideas into realities. Quick spotlight on Day 4 in Soroti: #RFC2026 is proving again why these regional competitions matter. With the jury (Matt Bish, Nathan Magoola, James King & Doreen Mirembe) now engaged, participants are getting unfiltered industry perspectives. Denis Onen's feedback loop on yesterday's shoots was candid, honest, actionable, and exactly what emerging filmmakers need to grow. Gonza's nudge to leverage AI/internet proactively, and it is more clear that this isn't just training, but empowerment. The #RFC2026 hands-on activities in Luwero continue to focus on practical production realities. Participants are learning to hire and assemble lean, effective teams, including writers pairing with directors, producers locking in cinematographers and sound professionals, all while navigating budgets and roles typical of independent projects. They're becoming familiar with production equipment, including handling cameras, lights, and microphones, in low-resource setups that mirror what most Ugandan filmmakers face daily. Site identity and security lessons are key too, scouting authentic locations, securing permissions, managing crowds and safety, so the focus stays on the story, not logistics.
