a little over a month ago, I quit my job to work on my own VR game -- and I just revealed it today! youtube.com/watch?v=Cy7j9R…

@notch pretty much! i often have super random ideas for stuff, and now I just spin up an agent to try making that idea, without distracting me (too much) from my main work it's a great way to constantly be throwing stuff at a wall to see what sticks

@CircuitLord So you're saying I could finally have that "excel, but each cell is actually live code" thing I heard some linux text editor had built in? :D Thanks for the tips!

I just might give vibe coding a shot. Not because I don't like to do programming, but because I've been having a lot of trouble hiring talented programmers, and I'll probably feel less bad about firing a chat bot. I'm thinking it could make the dull tools I'd need to make myself to make this darn game. Like a map editor, or a node graph visualizer. Bonus points if they can be used to bounce esoteric ideas at. Like what the canonical simplest trinary logic gate should be. What options should I look into? Oh and if anyone tips on restaurants that serve crow, that could come in handy.

finally wrapping up a big refactor for my game's netcode had Fable generate a snazzy little diagram to visualize the progress, this is def underrated will be making more diagrams in the future

Oh Shit. Oh Fuck Huge new SteamVR Beta just dropped! In order to see the new UI, you must also opt into the Steam Client Beta

in my free time, i've been prototyping my vision for how I want an OS to work in VR using your real mouse, you can place, resize, and interact with apps anywhere you want in 3D space. no more limits

a little VR experiment I made while Fable was/(is?) still around there's not a lot of options for level design in VR and I think it'd be cool to have a hammer style editor designed specifically for gamedev

@Reelix i think the reason mice/touchpads are so good is because they're physically anchored to a surface if you like picked up a mouse and tried to drag in the air it has the exact same sort of precision issues and shaky hand issues what sort of things did you have in mind?

@CircuitLord Maybe the vision should then be a way to improve motion controllers. Are our own hands too imprecise? :)

@StiekemeHenk >_> all i said is "i think it'd be cool to make" this is a two-prompt random experiment with fable not something i'm making rn

@CircuitLord This is nothing like a "Hammer" for VR. This is just placing some shapes and objects. This should take about an hour to build.

@AnotherRatchet i remember seeing that back in the day, that and unity's version were mega underdeveloped and have been abandoned for forever what i'm imagining is something specifically designed for level blockouts, not general level editing, a lot like unreal's cube-grid, but in VR

@tirehabitat I have not, but that sounds cool! i tend to avoid anything they make with a 10-foot pole just because of how clunky and confusing horizon OS is

@CircuitLord Did you try the surface trackpad on Quest 3? The mouse moves seamlessly between windows.

@Reelix yup! motion controllers will never be precise enough for clicking on stuff reliably and are way more clunky I think apple's eye tracked input is interesting but isn't a great solution for all traditional computer work

@CircuitLord Your vision still requires that you use a mouse?

@En_Senada69 well that's what i'm saying, if it had those same hotkeys for focus/moving windows, then what's the difference between this and an infinitely expandable monitor? as for comfort yeah I get they're not comfortable enough right now, my point is that they're getting better at that

@CircuitLord I can change window focus or desktops with a hotkey on an ergonomic flat screen instead of spending the time and effort to manipulate them in space. Can you use VR all day in a productivity setting without fatigue or headaches?

@En_Senada69 i'd be curious to hear why you think that as headsets get lighter and more compact, I don't see how this is any different than just having a monitor that expands in any direction you want obv. needs hotkeys to arrange windows, but what else do you think is holding it back?

@CircuitLord That looks exhausting like when Compiz and Beryl came out in the 2000's. Neat toy, but then you turn it off.

@skipper4848 i think you underestimate how many terminal sessions I can open in this bad boi also it's not like visual media is going away, people will always need web browsers, chat apps, etc

@CircuitLord Why? Interface is moving from heavy UI to yapping. No need for staring at screens all day.

@VMaxx004 i agree yeah, i want to make it so the scaling is DPI-constant and resizing just changes the actual resolution of the window (although both should be an option)

@CircuitLord I already posted this somewhere but I hate that this diagram is how pretty much every XR OS does windows resizing, and I think this is how it should work:

@Cade_XR i originally planned this back in the day to be a sequel to desktop portal i quickly abandoned it because there was no headset with enough clarity and comfort for it, hoping that changes with Frame

@CircuitLord Looks incredible, I've been messing around with trying to make SteamVR closer to a spatial computer for months, natural inputs are sorely lacking. You looking at a desktop portal 2 esq thing?

@gfodor nice! this uses steamvr overlays currently just because they have the most features, but the concept is obviously expandable to whatever medium is the best for a given headset

@CircuitLord I sorta am working on this too, will bookmark if I ship this thing. It runs as an OpenXR api layer so runs on top of other VR apps.
