NYC in the de Blasio era: socialist bro married to a hedge fund manager. He's annoying, but she's busy making money and it's basically fine. NYC in the Mamdani era: socialist bro standing outside his ex-wife's penthouse with a megaphone, demanding she "decolonize" her bonus — while she's upstairs frantically calling her lawyer to finalize the restraining order.

Many city parks depts view “commerce” in parks negatively. No one can adequately explain why, but it’s reality. It’s also self-defeating as it creates a revenue source & drives higher usage. Unfortunately many parks dept heads measure success by acres owned, not visitors per acre. More cities need to adopt the kiosk strategy of Lisbon and elsewhere.

American city parks have a SERIOUS deficiency of vendors selling tasty treats, so it's cool to see a new place popping up in Central Park to grab a pastry and a coffee.

I love the 70s because they were just crazy in all sorts of ways. They weren't the 60s and they weren't the 80s - they were some other secret third thing and it was nasty, insane, tacky yet ornate, vibey, and wild. It's honestly kind of a forgotten decade which makes me like it more.

America has many “rust belt” cities with beautiful architecture, affordable housing, talented people, and bones that made them the powerhouses of the world economy. We will know America is on its way back from slumber not by the Dow but by the success of cities like Pittsburgh.
Rick Siger@DCEDSecretary

ICYMI: @TravelLeisure ranked Pittsburgh in their Top 10 Places for Gen X to live, citing strong jobs, healthcare, universities, and housing alongside world-class culture, sports, and outdoor recreation. Just one of many great communities in PA! ow.ly/15UJ50YKEF9

The man @NYCMayorsOffice is trolling gave $400 million to @MSKCC_BreastCA cancer hospital, $60 million to @SuccessCharters & $40 million to #NaturalHistoryMuseum. So, yeah Zohran, I think Ken Griffin is “paying his share.” Such a jackass, juvenile move to play @DSA class warfare with Griffin. Grow up. @nycgov @CMFrankMorano @CM_KMarmorato @GaleBrewerNYC @CMSandyNurse @SpeakerMenin @LincolnRestler @OsseChi @JoannAriola32 @vmmalony . Zohran, put the ego aside & try showing appreciation 4 this philanthropy.

There used to be an important country and western bar called Hillbilly Ranch in Boston at Park Square. The state seized it in 1980 under eminent domain to replace it with the state transportation building. Henry Horenstein took great pictures there in 1972. Coulda been 1952.
