The Baker Street & Waterloo Railway opened on 10 March 1906, running initially between Baker Street and Kennington Road (now Lambeth North). The Evening News nicknamed it, "Bakerloo" was officially adopted in July 1906. Over 36,000 passengers used the new line on its first day.

Okay - confession time - I am a HUGE Tom Selleck fan - since Magnum P I. After a long day in @StPaulsLondon and a trip home in the rain I am watching him as Jesse Stone in the T V adaptations of Robert B Parker’s novels - perfect Friday night viewing

Interesting to see this at London’s @towerhilltube . I’ve been working hard to make many more of these women known… but let’s remember them all!

London in the Swinging Sixties - the whole place was vibrant, fab and groovy - and before this tweet gets ripped to shreds by the younger generation, remember - that could be your Nan or Grandad you’re ridiculing!… #eastend #London #history

This door at Eastwood church in Essex dates from about 1150, which is extremely rare. The hinge has an inscription which (more or less) says ‘blessings on those who come and go’.

I've cleaned up this gorgeous Victorian photograph of Dickensian London, overshadowed by the sheer magnitude & dominance of St Paul's Cathedral. It was photographed by John Leighton 166 years ago, back in 1859. I think the mooring poles in the foreground almost lend a Venetian air to the image, and the definition is so high, one can almost zoom right into those warehouse windows!

700 year tower of All Hallows Staining has been suspended 45 feet above ground as part of a major City of London building project, balanced on stilts above a 60,000 sq ft excavation site. I find my old night time picture more favourable. What are they doing?
