Hi Twitter! Does anyone have any good lessons/resources on Ethiopia remaining independent? I want to show my year 7’s that not all of Africa was colonised #decolonisingeography

@_jopayne We did a weather project! Where is the best place to eat lunch - we looked at wind speed and temperature, did interviews, and field sketches 🌤

I know this has been mentioned many times before (it’s just a nightmare to re-find threads on Twitter!): what fieldwork do you do on the school site, other than microclimates? #geographyteacher

Thinking of starting off the Autumn term with a Geography of Fashion and Food module 🍔👖Good way to start them looking at maps, sustainability, climate change, TNC’s and globalisation. Anyone done anything similar? How did it go? #geography

Anyone got any interesting lesson ideas for teaching the challenges and opportunities of Mumbai- feel like this lesson has a lot of potential! Any video links or case studies welcome! 🇮🇳🧡💚🤍 #EdexcelGeography #geographyteacher #geography

@Nonalemkin @geoteachrach @DecoloniseGeog Yes please! I’ve sent you a message- as a first year teacher I have a lot to learn and excited to be a part of the conversation!

Planning a lesson on the informal/formal economy and implementing some of the ideas from @geoteachrach and @DecoloniseGeog to think more widely about barriers to jobs in urban areas.

English

@Map_Addict @geoteachrach @DecoloniseGeog Good point! I don’t want India or the informal economy to be portrayed as ‘crime filled’ - I’ll change this! Thank you ☺️
English

@geoteachrach @CityHeightsGeog @DecoloniseGeog Yep made me think about the suggestion of ‘ a lot of crime and gangs’. Do you have factual evidence to back this up? For example, Mexico has a lower crime rate than the US but according to text books Mexico is full of gangs and crime.
English

@geoteachrach @DecoloniseGeog Oh excellent point! I was adapting an old lesson but I presume this was made up? I can double check. Do you suggest finding real stories or avoiding using names like this all together?
English

@CityHeightsGeog @DecoloniseGeog At the GA conf Margaret Robert mentioned about textbooks making up stories and it really made me think about how we include a wide range of voices 🙏🏼 obviously I don’t have any other context of the rest of the lesson and glad it’s been useful! Have you introduced CAGED prior?

Year 7’s taking their learning outside today ☀️We are collecting data to find out where the best location to eat lunch is! @EACTCityHeights
