Just a fascinating history of sugar’s etymology that I think about every now and then.

Since the process had developed in China (whose Indian name is Cheen), people started calling this new form of sugar “Cheeni sakkhar” (Chinese sugar).

It’s a similar story with sugar. Ancient west used to get sugar from India, where they called it “sakkhar”.
Roman transliteration of that word became “succre”
Later, in Germanic & English languages, it became “zucker” & “sugar”.

In the olden days, when ships used to dock in Mumbai, they used to tie their boats to the door at the harbour. The Sanskrit word for tie is Bandh and for a door, is Dwar. So the place they tied a boat was called BandhDwar. The word then travelled to Persia and became Bandar or Bunder. Which meant port or harbour So any place in Mumbai which has the word Bunder in it, was a place where once upon a time boats used to dock. So the place where boats used to dock and had a lot of sacks in it, became BoriBunder The port where Palla or Hilsa fish was available became Palla Bunder, which then transformed to Apollo Bunder The port where the Portuguese traded Horses with the Arabs, became Ghodbunder And a port which had no particular significance was called Bunder. In Marathi, this became Vandre. Which over a period of time became what we know today as Bandra The word Bunder in Mumbai is not just a pointless word. It actually represents Mumbai's maritime heritage and importance

Drew followed the usual path of city liberal to conservative. He got robbed. But that’s not what really does it, it’s the fact that there’s no one who really cares on the left about robbery. Your stuff gets broken, stolen, and the left just shrugs. They don’t take it seriously, not because it’s impossible to stop, but because they have a series of insane sociologic theories about human nature and crime that are so bat shit insane that they don’t think catching and punishing criminals is a good thing.
So Drew like many before him is sitting there listening to people he once respected explaining why his stuff being stolen is actually not the fault of the robber, but of societies oppressive nature blah blah blah and all the bullshit becomes plainly obvious. They’re just wrong about the world.

This is an interesting exchange, because alienation from the left by toxic extremists on that side is probably the primary reason for the rise of MAGA. Drew isn’t unique. He’s a uniquely charming and funny expression of a very common experience.

The statistics are meaningless at this point. But listening to conservative talk radio - the sort of people who were once Never Trumpers and are very enthusiastic about military action against Iran - there is clearly a push to undermine Vance and promote Rubio.

It is a Darwinian test that filters out weak genes from the society. If your life falls apart because the clock jumps an hour once every 6 months, Mother Nature doesn’t want you propagating your genes. Very Nietzschean.

Hasan derangement syndrome is out of control.
