I wish I could be like the people who love autumn and winter; the fallen leaves, the damp, snow, snuggling by the fire with a film on in my jumper.
But I'm not.
I want my shorts on, yomping through the countryside with the heat of the sun on my head and the vibrant colours and the shimmer on the waterways and sitting outside until 10pm with a Peroni and paddling in the sea.
Bring it on. 🏖️🌞
@Tessadunlop I don’t see the issue. My son is in the marines and lives on a camp. People go on holiday to holiday camps. My children spent time during their holidays at dance /drama camps etc.
@shivmalik@alison_fure I don’t see forest cities being built. I see housing estates with few amenities and urban sprawl. I teach students who have so little knowledge of British wildlife that I have to stop science exams midway to explain what a thrushes and what hedgerows are.
@shivmalik@alison_fure Are you concerned about the environment? Do you have an opinion about the classification of biodiverse habitats as “grey belt”. Are you concerned about the huge loss of British Wildlife?
@alison_fure Do you live in a house? Have you paid off your mortgage? How do you expect young British families to do the same? Maybe we should return your home to nature and plant an oak tree on it?
@ChappellJe13586@SandyofSuffolk Devon is getting crowded though as so many people have moved down, and so many new houses are being built. Clovelly, Salcombe and Woolacombe are just tourist places full of second homes. They are not proper communities year round.
Nicest Places to Visit in Devon, I am biased...🤣
UKDartmoor National Park: A vast moorland with dramatic tors, rivers, and hiking trails; ideal for nature lovers seeking wild scenery, stargazing, and historic sites like ancient stone circles. Best for outdoor adventures and tranquility.
Woolacombe Beach: A 3-mile golden sandy beach with dunes and excellent surfing waves; voted one of the UK's best for its clean waters and family-friendly vibe.
Clovelly Village: A picturesque, car-free fishing village with steep cobbled streets, flower-covered cottages, and harbor views; offers a timeless, romantic charm with tea rooms and historic walks.
Salcombe: A yacht-filled harbor town in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, featuring boutique shops, sandy beaches, and coastal paths; great for sailing, seafood, and luxury relaxation.
Jurassic Coast (e.g., Sidmouth or Beer): UNESCO World Heritage cliffs with fossils and dramatic scenery; perfect for hiking, fossil hunting, and exploring Regency towns.
Right. Enough doom mongering.
What British villages, towns and cities are still beautiful and worth visiting?
I'll go first.
Woodbridge in Suffolk.
Ludlow in Shropshire.
My son recently turned 18… I will support any aspirations he has. If he wants to be an astronaut, actor, investment banker or bin man, I will support & encourage him incessantly, but if he suggests signing up to the military to fight for Starmer, I will absolutely forbid it!
@liamtuffs1 I thought in this country at 18 years old a young person is an adult and (unless mentally incapacitated) able to make their own decisions, whether you as parent approve or consider them wise. Therefore forbidding him, is just so funny. If he wants to join the army he can.
@squeezyjohn The issue has grown and spread out of the cities. As you’ve said we’ve always had knives. We need knives to cook. Somehow knife crime has become more normalised and less shocking,
The irony of a fatal knife attack in Solingen is not lost on me.
These are tools ... they have been used for centuries as tools ... it's people who are the problem. Sorry. Take the nutcases off our streets.
Live on a standard residential terrace street and got this note through the letterbox last night because the car was parked a bit further down the road.
Cheddar man. The face of a truly indigenous Briton. Remember this when you see the morons in their union shirts talking crap. We are newbies. Time to give them their land back. It's the right thing to do.
@MandyDavidson21@racheldavison18@RogersHistory Really? At a state school? As someone who went to an academic university who teaches in a state secondary I can say it is of no advantage at all. Teaching is all about the soft skills. Usually it’s more about the soft skills.
@racheldavison18@RogersHistory I never got the ‘better’ universities thing until I was applying for my first teaching job. I was told by tutor that some schools wouldn’t shortlist me because my 1st class degree wasn’t from the ‘right’ uni. Helped me realise where I didn’t want to work!
It’s that time of year where the HODs/leaders who only ever give themselves A level classes or top set GCSE groups can celebrate their obvious teaching superiority in style…
My goodness she’s confused! I thought the Titanic sank because it hit a bloody big iceberg … but no … this “genius” reckons it was because of too many immigrants????
@colinmcfarlane hello! I was wondering whether you played Mercutio at the Young Vic in 1986. I went with my school to see the production. We caught the bus from Devon. Thanks!
