My landlord complained that property taxes went up $1,800 this year. Raised my rent $2,400 to cover it. Passed on $600 more than it cost him. Called it a necessary adjustment. I’m paying for his tax bill plus his profit margin on his tax bill. Being a tenant in America means absorbing every cost and sharing in zero of the gains.
