@totodile_king I’ve got some really good vintage pieces (at least really good for me lol) but the $3-5 full art moderns I’ve been picking up have been so fulfilling.

Unpopular opinion: I LOVE vintage… but it’s getting so expensive it’s hard to actually enjoy collecting it. Cheap modern feels like the only part of the hobby most people can still participate in…

@bowtiedmeathead ‘95 Camry. $2,000. Parents paid insurance and I paid gas and all maintenance. I busted wood all winter and they decided it was enough work to pay for the car. Lucky for me, it got great gas mileage lol.

Wife and I took our oldest son (who recently turned 17 and got his driver’s license) over to the dealership last night to get a car. Ended up going with a small, used hybrid SUV that is good on gas, reliable and has enough room for his hockey equipment when traveling. We’re helping him out with the car payment and making him pay for gas and insurance. He does very well in school, hangs with the right kids, busts his ass at his sport (goal is to play in college) and just got his first job which he starts this week. Definitely a far cry from myself at his age. Wasn’t serious about school, partying too much, chasing girls and lacked direction. So we’re happy to help him reach his goals while also teaching him some life lessons. It’s a balance. Assuming you are over 40 there is likely a good chance mom and dad made you pay for it (much more common back then). What was your first car? And what arrangement did you make with your kids for their first car?

@HippyMomPhD Lumping everything under “social studies” was a big mistake. History, geography, civics, and economics are separate pieces of the puzzle. They deserve separate focus.

@TheMiddleborne Let’s say Tolkien didn’t picture Durin’s Bane with wings, I think PJ and the crew still did a great job showing us DB in films. And also, who is to say the Balrogs are all exactly the same… if some of Tolkien’s dragons have wings maybe some balrogs do and some don’t? Idk.

I think it’s funny the way people will latch onto one metaphor as a non-metaphorical absolute and the others as mere flowery descriptions. The Balrog is not a shadow. They are physical beings that can be killed with swords. Glorfindel kills a balrog with a sword. Ecthelion kills one with his helmet spike and driving him into the fountain of Gondolin where they both drown). They are fire spirits who’s flames can be quenched(this balrog becomes a slime beast for a while after.) The Balrog despiction in the films is fine. It’s an acceptable depiction of a corporeal fire demon. The real debate is the wings. And the films did the right thing: make it look dope as heck. The wings are structurally real with shadow/smoke as the membranes

Ohhh *that’s* why it seems like a lot of people think the movie Balrog’s design is stupid. And they’re right.

My LCS told me they don’t take cards in for trade nor will they buy cards… the cards in their case they get from shows, not their customers. Lovely.

I think about what happened to my childhood Pokémon binder everyday. I know I sold it to my neighbor for $100 like an idiot in 2002, full of shadowless base set in mint condition, but I wonder if he still has it, threw it out, sold it, etc

When schools invest in football, they’re investing in culture. The accountability, leadership, and community buy‑in don’t just lift the team—they elevate academics, arts, and every other program. In a time when real community is fading, that shared identity matters more than ever

@CousinEddi3 I have this card! Not first edition, and there’s a huge crease right down the middle. I got it for $0.25 at a Peddler’s Mall. It’s one of my favorites (and unsellable with the crease)

I think it’s great there are new collectors in the hobby. If you need to sell. Sell. To everyone entering now. Enjoy! It’s a worthwhile hobby if you treat it with respect and have long time horizons. Collect what YOU like and find your own niche! You don’t have to have the most slabs or this or that. For years and years. These old Pokemon cards were worth nothing nobody cared. I kept collecting what I liked. That’s what I suggest you do. Collect what you love!

@PokeTeeJay Went to a shop today and they had both these in the case… took everything in me not to buy at least one of them. Both were graded, 8 on both. I want them ungraded though.

Take it from me, a recent empty nester: The Good Old Days don’t feel like it at the time. It feels more like hard work and struggle. The days are long but the years fly by. Then, one day you wake up and the house is quiet. One of my most cherished memories is coming home from work each day and opening the creaky back door to our 1947 craftsman home. My 3-year-old daughter (now 21) would drop her toys and run down the hall—her footsteps booming on the old wood floor—to greet me. I love my life and don’t want to go back, but I do wish I could pass one message across time to 35-year-old me: You’re living the Good Old Days right now. Savor every moment.

USA is in a vibe shift. It's now the age of heroes...and miracles. US hockey team takes Gold, US Military rescues pilots in Iran, Artemis II travels to Far Side of the Moon. Whether it's on ice, in air, or in space, Americans can do the impossible.
